My heart raced, pounding against my ribs like a drum, as terror threatened to consume me. Desperation clawed at my throat as I scrambled to my feet, the darkness of the forest closing in around me.

I tried to run, to escape the gnashing jaws of the wolves, but they were relentless. Their sharp claws tore at my gown, shredding the fabric and sending me stumbling to the ground once more. I screamed as their teeth came dangerously close to my skin, the metallic scent of blood making me dizzy with fear.

But just as I thought all hope was lost, Dimitri appeared out of nowhere, his presence commanding and fierce. With a roar that echoed through the night, he leaped into action, his movements swift and precise as he fought off the wolves.

I watched in awe as he battled the creatures, his strength and agility unmatched. With each swipe of the dagger in his hand and every powerful blow, he drove the wolves back, forcing them to retreat into the darkness of the forest.

As the last of the wolves disappeared into the night, Dimitri staggered, blood oozing from a wound on his side. I rushed to his side, my heart pounding with fear and relief as I helped him back to the safety of the mansion.

Once inside, I tended to his wounds, my hands shaking as I cleaned and dressed them. The air between us crackled with tension, the events of the evening weighing heavily on both of us. Despite the chaos and danger, there was a strange sense of intimacy in the quiet moments that followed.

Finally, as I finished bandaging his wounds, Dimitri broke the silence. "You're reckless, Scarlett," he growled, his voice low and dangerous. "You could have been killed out there."

I lowered my gaze, feeling the weight of his words like a heavy burden on my shoulders. "I'm sorry," I whispered, my voice barely audible. "I just wanted to go home."

Dimitri's expression softened as he saw the fear and exhaustion etched on my face. With a sigh, he scooped me into his arms, holding me close as he carried me to the safety of my room.

As I lay in bed, the events of the evening replayed in my mind, filling me with a sense of dread and regret. The sight of blood on my skin made me feel faint, and I closed my eyes, trying to push the memories away.

Dimitri sat beside me, his touch gentle as he wiped away the tears that streamed down my cheeks. "I'm sorry, Scarlett," he murmured, his voice filled with remorse. "I shouldn't have been so harsh with you. But you need to understand the danger you're in."

I nodded, my throat tight with emotion. "I know," I whispered, my voice barely above a whisper. "I won't do it again."

Dimitri's expression softened, and he reached out to brush a strand of hair from my face. "I promise to protect you, Scarlett," he said, his voice filled with sincerity. "But you need to trust me."

I met his gaze, the intensity of his eyes making my heart race. "I do trust you," I replied, my voice barely audible. "I just... I'm scared."

Dimitri's grip tightened around me, a silent reassurance that everything would be okay. "I know," he whispered, his voice soft and gentle. "But I'm here for you, Scarlett. Always."

As we sat together in the dimly lit room, the tension between us slowly melting away, I felt a sense of peace wash over me. Despite the dangers that lurked in the darkness, I knew that as long as I had Dimitri by my side, I would be safe.

I mean, as safe as one can get with a vampire.
