Ava
"Hi, Delilah. Cameron came with me and we brought coffee." I sign, handing her the warm cup from Waves.
Delilah smiles at Cameron and it only grows when he smiles back, his dimples popping in both cheeks. She turns to me, brushing some of my hair away from my face. "You look so pretty, honey."
"Thank you." I chose to wear the pink dress from my first date with Cameron and decided to leave part of my hair down, the rest secured with a white butterfly clip.
Cooper glares at Cameron but he's too busy to notice as he sips his coffee, rocking on the balls of his feet. He insisted on coming to work with me this morning after he made me...come and after I snoozed for an hour while he watched The Office.
I've learned just by being near Cam, I feel endless happiness. I feel wanted and I hope he feels the same way.
The smile on my face hasn't left all morning, only spreading more each time I look at Cameron. This elated feeling that's flowing through me is such a new feeling, I never want it to vanish.
"Is he just going to stand there and try to look pretty or are you going to put him to work?" Cooper signs, huffing his chest out a little. I roll my eyes.
"Yes, he's working with me today. He's gonna help me with the new shipment." I sign back because apparently authors love to publish in May and June.
Cooper gives a sharp nod, returning back to stamping the pile of books in front of him. Delilah smacks the back of his head and both Cam and I snort but try to muffle it, even if almost everyone here is deaf.
"Be nice, you toad!" She signs hastily, "Ava loves the boy and he could be around until the day you die."
Cooper pretends to pout but it looks kinda funny and that's when I decide to leave before this silent argument escalates.
I pull at Cameron's arm, dragging him towards the six wooden tables on the first floor, the light drafting through the windows illuminating the space.
Cam rubs his hands together, pulling up the sleeves of his shirt. I try not to notice the veins running up his forearms. "Okay, put me to work."
I smile at how eager he sounds. "Okay, you see those two sale tables? Those books are going to have to be marked for seventy five percent off and placed on the large shelf at the very front of the store since we need to make room for the new ones."
Handing him the easy peel off stickers he'll need to put on the books, I point to the back. "Once we're done that, we'll have to grab the new releases from the storage room and put them into our system."
Cameron smiles, kissing my cheek as he passes me. "Sounds good, boss."
Blushing, I start placing the older books on the metal cart. "You have practice at one, right? Do you need to eat before or...?"
"Nope. I wanna spend as much time with you here as I can. I'll order us some lunch before I have to go."
I bite my lip, hiding my happiness at the thought of spending more time with him. "Good. That's good."
We work quite efficiently through the next few hours and he handles the customers quite well when they recognize him and ask for a picture or autograph.
I try to stand out of the way when they do and busy myself with work but I can't help but feel proud for him, watching the way he absolutely lights up with the little kids and spends time talking to them. It'll definitely be a core memory for them.
I slip my hearing aids out when more people start bustling through, the chime over the door getting too repetitive for me. Arms slide around my waist from behind and I gasp, whipping around to face a cheeky looking Cameron.
