"I don't know if I can do this. Maybe we can try later-"

"Ava," I sigh, holding back a laugh, "If you don't do this, you never will."

Her face drops but she nods so I hold the driver's door open more, helping her trembling body onto the seat. Her back is rammed straight as she inspects the car, her eyes glazing over each and every surface.

I move to close the door but her hand whips out, holding mine hostage. I brace my forearm on the top of the SUV, leaning forward into the open space. "Hey. I'm not going anywhere. I was just gonna go over to the passenger side."

Ava nods sharply, putting on her best brave face but her lip juts out, trembling. I have the urge to kiss it. "Okay. Just don't leave me."

"Never, Sunshine." Closing her door softly, I jog over to the passenger side and step inside, immediately reaching for her hand and placing it on my thigh so she can't pick at her thumbs. She already has some of her fingers bandaged and I really don't want to see anymore like that.

"So, this is your car?" I ask, hopefully distracting her. I went and picked up the SUV from Delilah and Cooper's house this morning while Ava went and got her learners licence.

Her fingers pick at my knuckles. "Well, it was Atlas's old car but when I got my first learners, he went out and bought himself a truck so I could have this car. Afterwards, Cooper offered to keep it at his house as long as he could use it for rare errands."

I nod, glancing around our empty street outside of the apartment. "You want to try turning the car on? We aren't allowed to go anywhere but the car is already in park so all you gotta do is press that button."

Since I'm not twenty five that means Ava can't drive with me on the road so I asked Matthew and Cooper if they'd be able to help instead and both happily agreed.

Ava swallows, glancing to where I'm pointing by the steering wheel. She brushes a piece of her hair out of her face that's escaped her normal slicked back ponytail before I watch her do as I suggested. The car hums to life and Ava lets herself relax for the first time since we sat down.

"So fucking proud of you, baby." I kiss her knuckles, smiling when she giggles. The sound is better than any fucking music.

"Maybe next time you can drive us around the block a few times?" She asks, full of confidence. I love seeing her glow like this.

"Of course. We both train at noon tomorrow so we can do it then."

We both remain quiet afterwards. Ava's fingers continue to fiddle in my hand, her left leg bouncing up and down.

It's storming outside today which makes sense for Vancouver but Ava seems to find comfort in it, listening contently to the rain pound against the roof.

"If I ask you something, do you promise not to laugh or anything?" She asks suddenly, turning her head towards the window so I can't see her face. My brows dip.

"I would never, Sunshine." God, I wish her parents would die for creating all this self-doubt.

Red twinges her cheeks as she hesitates, her hand absently squeezing mine. "Did you-did you really mean what you said? About...eating me out?"

Stunned, I blink. "Hell yeah. It would be a fucking honor."

Ava smiles softly at that, almost surprised. "Oh. Well, do you think...we could-uh, you could..." She groans, burying her face in her hands.
