"Auuugggh," I groaned. I reached for my head, feeling the pounding rhythm of my head. "This is why we don't drink after a championship," I whispered, trying not to let my headache worsen.
As I slowly awoke, I realized that I was lying on some sort of long grass, the type you would see on a prairie from the old Midwest. "What the hell," I remarked, almost tripping over as I tried to stand. "This is most definitely not my bedroom," I said, a slight amount of confusion and panic setting in. As I looked around more, I noticed I was in a forest with trees that looked taller than my entire apartment. "Am I seeing things?" I wondered. Rubbing my eyes to check that I was seeing straight. Although my eyes were still a little blurry, I looked at the tree clear as day. It was taller than any tree I had ever seen. "Well, how in God's name am I in a Redwood Forest?" It was my only logic. However thin it was that made sense to me.
I instinctively reached for my phone in my pocket, finding it at 66% battery after not putting it on my charger. "I swear if this is some prank from Jake, I'm going to throw him out his apartment window and elbow-drop him on the way down," I muttered angrily. As I looked down at my phone trying to contact everyone I could, I saw that along with no signal, there was a necklace with an almost rainbow-looking gem right where I was lying previously. As I picked up the necklace, I noticed that it seemed to glow faintly, although it could just be a trick of the light. "Refraction or something..." I thought. As I inspected it a bit more, I tried to think if I knew anyone who wore it."I don't think this belongs to anyone I know. Finders Keepers rules, I guess."
"As I put on the necklace, I heard an almost earth-shattering voice. It was almost enough for me to black out from the sheer gravity of the voice.
"SCAVENGER CAN YOU HEAR ME!?"
"DEAR GOD," I yelled, my headache seeming to multiply threefold
"SCAVENGER, I AM NO GOD," It said in a bit less of a loud yell.
I wavered for a moment, almost falling over, but staying standing thanks to many years of althetical training. "What in the Fu.." I cursed, barely staying upright.
"SCAVENGER ?" the voice asked in a seemingly inquisitive tone.
"Who the hell are you, and why can I hear you in my head? " I said, abandoning all logic.
"Because you are wearing me," It said plainly.
"Am I crazy? Did I finally take too many hits to my head?" I thought questioning my entire existence.
" You are not crazy. Please calm your thoughts." said the voice.
I moved over to one of the overgrown trees and sat on a nearby rock; facing towards a mildly far away river. I inhaled and exhaled a few times, trying to calm my nerves and stop my head from pounding like a drum.
"What are you then mysterious voice?" I thought, hoping that the voice hearing my thoughts was just a fluke.
" I AM THE GREAT ANIMUS DRAGON DARKSKY!" Darksky boasted.
I froze for a moment, recognizing one of the words the voice said. "Wait, did he say animus," I racked my brain, trying to understand where I had heard that term before...
" Are you impressed?" Darksky asked in an expecting tone.
"Animus... dragon..." I contemplated, trying to remember where he had heard these terms. In a moment of reflection, I realized where I had heard these words. Despite the obvious impossibility, he had no choice but to accept the facts before me. "I'M IN PYRRIHA!?!" I SHOUTED, in a moment of complete elegance and confusion.
