Meera pov:
Time flies! Feels like yesterday we were dealing with all that drama, and now Elena's doing great. Luis's parents even came around about the wedding, so they're planning to tie the knot after exams and results. Speaking of exams, ours are just a week away! Getting Appa's approval for Adrian and me was a huge win. We're both walking on cloud nine, and to top it off, Adrian's father Carlos even had a chat with Appa on the phone – can you believe it?
Right now, Elena's staying with us while she preps for her finals alongside me. She's practically back to her normal self, and after the wedding, Luis is whisking her away to Madrid! Adrian and I haven't even brought up his departure. Honestly, the thought of him leaving makes my stomach churn. I just can't imagine him not being around. It's just too painful to think about.
Speaking of Adrian, he's the definition of romantic. Every week, he takes me out on a date. The rest of the time, he's practically glued to my side, either studying at my place or vice versa. It's kind of adorable.
Today, me, Adrian, Dahlia, Elena, Luis, and Diego all planned to hang out before the exams to relieve some stress, We are heading to a carnival!
Just then, I was lost in a daydream about that crazy and heartwarming stunt, It was crazy, yes, but in a way, it showed just how much he love me. And that, well, that made my heart skip a beat he pulled with his palm in front of Appa to prove his love. Elena snapped me out of it with a nudge. "Meera, earth to Meera! Mom's calling you downstairs."
I shook my head with a smile, butterflies fluttering in my stomach thanks to Adrian, and walked outside, the sight that greeted me was pure Naveen. There he was, sprawled on the couch, completely engrossed in a cricket match. He was practically yelling at the players – the way he gets, especially during the IPL and when the Chennai Super Kings are playing! Cricket might be a huge deal back in India, but here in Burlington, baseball reigned supreme. I couldn't resist swatting him playfully on the head. He avenged tossing a pillow at me and yelling, "You lizard!"
Amma's voice cut through our playful chaos. "You two! Don't you have any other work?!"
Just as I was about to retort, a sharp ring echoed through the house – the doorbell. The sound instantly squashed any further banter between Naveen and me. We exchanged a curious glance. Who could be visiting at this hour? My curiosity piqued, I hurried towards the door, Naveen trailing close behind. As I reached for the handle.
The front door clanged shut, and Appa's hurried steps echoed through the house. "Anju ma!" he called out, a hint of urgency in his voice. Amma appeared from the kitchen, wiping her hands on a dishcloth. Appa scanned the room, his gaze lingering on me, Naveen, Elena, and even Patti who had emerged from her room, drawn by the commotion.
A knot of unease tightened in my stomach,"Appa, what's wrong?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
He sighed, his irritation evident. "The Venkatesan family is coming over. Just informed me."
My mind raced. Why were they coming here, and on such short notice? "What do they want to talk about?" I blurted out.
Appa muttered something about "important matters," his gaze darting nervously between me and Naveen. "Meera ma, you and Elena go and study," he said, his voice softening as he reached out to gently touch my hair.
I nodded numbly, retreating to my room with Elena. As soon as the door closed behind us, she shot me a questioning look. "What's going on?"
"The Venkateshan uncle family is coming over," I explained, my voice laced with confusion.
Naveen, who had followed us into the room, leaned against the doorway. "Exactly, Akka! I don't trust those people at all. What do you think they want?"
