"Mom, what are we gonna do?" Triston complained.
"Well, tomorrow we can leave Cameron at the hotel while we go skiing. I guess I'll stay and help him out." My mom replied.
"Mom, I can if you want me to." I said softly.
"Are you sure?"
"Absolutely." I smiled.
•••
We managed to get everyone back to the hotel. I went to bed with the T.V. on, thinking about what to do tomorrow, then I drifted to sleep.
•
I heard a light tapping noise on our hotel door, like rain on a roof. I slid to the door and opened it.
"I came to get Triston, but you can go back to bed." It was my mother.
"Got it," I say, and toss myself back on the mattress. Mom quietly shut the door, and I peeked through Liam and Cam's door. Liam had just left, and Cameron was eating cereal out of a styrofoam bowl on the counter.
"Hey," I say and sit on the corner of his bed.
"Good morning," he said as he smiled.
"I was thinking we could go to Steak 'n Shake for lunch, if you want to." I shrugged.
"That sounds great, actually. I'm getting sick of this nasty stuff." Cam laughed and set down his food.
"It's only 9 o'clock though, so whatcha wanna do?" I rested my chin in the palm of my hand and looked at him.
"Whatever you want, I honestly don't care." Cam shrugged.
"Maybe we should just stay here after we eat at Steak 'n Shake so you can elevate your ankle and ice it." I suggested.
"Okay," Cam ran his fingers through his hair. "we can play games and stuff."
•
"What do you want from Steak 'n Shake?" I asked as I swung the car keys back and forth.
"Well, what are you getting?" He yawned.
"I always get the Prince of Royal Steak Burger, it has an egg and cheese and stuff." I chuckled.
"I'll have one of those too, please." Cameron smiled.
"I'll be back in 20 minutes." I gingerly closed the door and took the elevator down to the lobby. The automatic doors lightly squealed as they opened. I tossed myself into my car and drive a few blocks down the road to the restaurant.
As I creeped up to the intercom, a deep voice mumbled, "Hi, welcome to Steak 'n Shake, how may I help you?"
"May I have 2 Prince of Royal Steak Burgers please?"
"Is that all?"
"Yup."
"That'll be $12.99 at the next window."
I fished through my wallet and pulled out a twenty dollar bill. I handed it to a guy about my age with nearly brushed black hair.
"$7.01 is your change." He lazily dropped the change into my fingertips and gave the most awful fake smile I've ever seen. He'd get fired if he worked at Wendy's that for sure. I pulled up and an older lady handed me my bag and I sped back to the hotel.
••
I hopped in the elevator and shoved the plastic button with a 3 on it. I stuck my room key into my door then slipped through the connecting door.
"Hello?" I said.
"I'm in the bathroom." Cam laughed.
"Don't fall in." I joked.
A minute later, Cam was laying on his bed eating his burger.
"Thanks, love." He said sweetly.
"You're welcome. So whatcha wanna watch?"
"Do you want to just re-watch the old Jurassic Parks?" Cameron spat as he ate.
"Sure." I giggled and began my meal.
•••
I scooted over to Cam as he looped his arm over my shoulders. I lay my head on his collar bone. Watching movies with someone is so much better than watching by yourself. Cameron's arms tensed up at certain scenes, and he held me closer.
"You know you're the best person ever." I whispered.
"So are you, Em." He planted a kiss on my cheek and rested his head on mine. I dozed off in the middle of the movie, so did Cameron.
•••
My eyes flickered open as the hotel room door clicked shut. Liam was saturated in chunks of snow and ice.
"Hi," he said softly. I waved in response and gently rocked Cameron's arm back and forth.
"Time to get up," I told him.
"What time is it?" He mumbled with his eyes still shut. I checked my phone.
"It's only 3:30 in the afternoon, we just fell asleep." I muttered. Cam's eyes peeled open and he sat up.
"Hey Liam, how were the sloped dude?"
"Great man, except I fell like 8 times, but I guess it's okay." Liam laughed.
"Where are mom, Drew and Triston?" I asked.
"Mom is changing Triston into different clothes then we're all going out to eat, I believe." Liam shrugged.
Cameron hobbled on his crutches to his suitcase and tossed on a black button-up short sleeved shirt.
"Hey Emily, can you put my shoe on please?" Cameron tossed me his right shoe.
"Give me your foot." I snapped sarcastically. I slid his foot into the white van and laced it up. I patted the shoe and said, "You're good to go."
•••
An hour later, we all were in our car debating on where to eat.
"Let's go to McDonald's!" Triston cheered.
"No, buddy. We want to go somewhere special." My mom spoke.
"How about Olive Garden?" I insisted.
Everyone nodded their heads in agreement and we were off.
