DOMINIC
It wasn't as nasty of a scar as I expected.
The skin was still bruised and it definitely ached depending on what movements I made, but it wasn't ugly. I have uglier scars. This one is just big and noticable- one that would earn some people asking 'may I ask what happened?' or something like that.
Still the oddly tight feeling in my skin was something to get used to. I had never had this many stitches before or a wound of this size. Never thought a bullet grazing me could do all of that.
"This is it, man?"
I looked over at the Uber driver as he stopped the car right in front of the building.
I nodded, "Yeah, thanks." I opened the door and stepped out.
Mama had been here for six years- a mental facility on the outskirts of Manhattan. This is one of the last places I thought she'd ever be- the thought never even crossed my mind.
I walked over to the front entrance and pushed open the door. I had tried to dress up nice- I didn't know what to expect. Also I'm sure I looked a bit out of place on visiters side of things. Tall and covered in tattoos- a good amount of them being vulgar from when I was acting like a young, angry dumbass.
A bunch of staff hurried around and I slipped past them to make my way towards the front desk.
An older woman with glasses typed away at her computer and hummed, "Hello, honey. Are you here to check in, pick a patient up, or visit a patient?"
I said, "A visit."
She then looked up at me- her eyes widdened just a bit. Either I was itimidating or she recognized me from the news. This was a mental facility so I'm sure she's seen worse than me, so I assumed it was the later.
"... Can you give me your name and your ID or your drivers license, honey? Either is fine." The woman asked after a moment.
I dug around for my wallet before I handed it her my ID. I said simply, "My name is Dominic Pierce."
She nodded along with my words while she typed something onto her computer- asking, "And you are here to see Mrs. Aury Pierce?"
I hummed, "Yes ma'am."
The woman handed me back my ID with a smile. "Your visitation is scheduled in the system, so you're good to go, honey. Nurse Faith is on the way to accompany you- she's Mrs. Pierce's main caretaker," She told me. "Your mother is very sweet lady."
