Half a year after
meanie started dating
"How long have you been dating?" the monotonous voice of the younger pissed Wonwoo more than he laid out but he was in no position to argue when it was him who solely needed the younger's advice so he just growled lowly at his best friend. But the younger just huffed, looking up at him from the papers in his hand, shaking his head as his fluffy bangs hung loosely in front of his forehead. "You still didn't get it, did you?""Can you stop being so pretentious, Jihoon?" Wonwoo growled, pulling a hearty laugh out of the younger. "I promise your boyfriend will disagree with that more than me," It was enough to shut Wonwoo up as his pale cheeks colored with a brighter shade of red and the other boy couldn't but whistle at his best friend's miser until Wonwoo picked up a tiger plushie from the couch and threw it towards the other boy.
Jihoon nearly knocked himself out of his chair in order to save the plushie and he did manage to save the precious plushie but the music notes that were in his hands were already all over the floor of the studio. He glared at the other boy who nervously chuckled, "Who said I ain't helping you? Of course, I'm helping you."

"It's just like I've told you, he has been avoiding me a lot," Wonwoo sighed, steering the orange majito with the straw as his eyes bore into the liquid. Jihoon knew this frustration, he had been through this, maybe worse than this but he shook away those thoughts as he reached and grabbed the older's hand, giving it a firm squeeze that made the other boy finally meeting his eyes.
"I know how you feel. When he does that it makes you feel like he doesn't love you anymore or heck he has gotten tired of you, right?" Jihoon spoke carefully, his voice was gentle like a breeze of spring that wash away every layer of sadness. "Are you sure that he didn't fall out of love?" Wonwoo's voice wavered, expectantly looking at his best friend who nodded at him as a tiny smile tugged at his lips.
"Even though he keeps himself away from me, doesn't kiss me as frequent as he used to do?" Wonwoo asked breathlessly while the younger boy just nodded. He didn't know what came over him but he teared up, his hands shaking. Jihoon tightly held it in his to assure him that everything was okay.
Wonwoo had been stressed for the past few weeks when he first started to notice the small changes in Mingyu. From the outside things might have seen like a perfect picture but Wonwoo could tell there was something that was going on in his boyfriend's head and he couldn't but wonder the negative thoughts.
The first time he noticed something odd was two months ago when he suggested that they should watch a movie and spend the night at his house when Mingyu was cooking dinner for him at his apartment. As soon as those words fell Mingyu stiffened at his spot but quickly managed to hid it as he said he would watch the movie and drive back home after that. Wonwoo didn't mind that thinking the younger had some work or something.
But he noticed that the thing that happened that night wasn't a onetime thing. It continued. Even though Mingyu would speed most his time at Wonwoo's since that way he could take care of his boyfriend and cook for him because he knew the older boy couldn't cook nor did he want to and it always wondered Wonwoo why didn't the other boy had already invited him to live with him which he had been wanting since they started dating.
Even the daily kisses he used to get lessened or got replaced with a simple peck. Not to mention he felt like their make out sessions also lessened. Wonwoo could even count how many times he made out with the younger boy in the last month and it was frustrating. It wasn't just about physically distant, Wonwoo had noticed for quite some time that the younger had lessened talking to him.
He knew his introverted self wasn't professional in making small talk but he still gave it a try for Mingyu but the said boy would just answer him with simple yes or no and sometimes with shrugging which was more frustrating than he wanted to tell. It was his first time dating someone let alone a guy and that guy was also his best friend. It was also hard for him to reach out to his friends for help with this.
At first he wanted to talk to Jeonghan since it was easy talking to him but he didn't know how to make someone understand how he was feeling. Because, he was sure his love life would sound wonderful to anyone because why not when you had such a wonderful boyfriend who would always take care of you, prioritize you and what not. So, in other words, it is you who is overthinking or worse it is you who is ruining your relationship with your overthinking and that was the last thing he wanted to hear right now.
He needed someone who would understand his worries and show him the right path and who could be better than Jihoon in that who also went down the same way, best friends to lover. Even though it sounded like one of the cliche troupes but what he could do when he couldn't but fall for his best friend and that led them here, at the cafe just a block away from Jihoon's studio who was supposed to give him answers instead of riddles.
"From outside it looks like what you have said, but I know better than anyone that isn't the case. It's because he is head over heals for you that he doesn't want to suffocate you with his feelings," Jihoon stated, his eyes are softer as he spoke and a sweet smile decorating his face as if he was remembering something from his past. Even before Wonwoo could protest the younger, he cut him off, "It sounds stupid and I know that very well."
"Did I ever tell him that I'm being suffocated? No! So why the heck he would make that himself?" Wonwoo nearly shouted until he remembered where he was and to be honest it really didn't make any sense to him. If you loved someone weren't you supposed to show affection instead of pushing them away. It didn't make any sense to him at all. Maybe Jihoon understood what was going inside his head, he shook his head at his best friend with adoration even though he's younger than the other boy.
"Have you ever tell him how much you actually love him?" Wonwoo nearly spilled out his majito. "I'll take that as a yes," Jihoon sipped his coffee, not even shocked that the other boy hadn't as if he had expected that from the very time the other boy explained his situation. "In a relationship, both need to take a step forward one at a time. It doesn't work if only one person does it and the other doesn't at least try," Jihoon was looking right into him and it made him feel embarrassed as if he was being stripped bare in front of the younger and it was embarrassing.
"You know, I'm not good with words," Wonwoo finally admitted after fidgeting with his sweater paws for a couple of minutes and he was grateful Jihoon let him. "It always isn't words that needs to be communicated, sometimes it can be a bit of appre...."
"I get it!" Wonwoo cut him off, already standing to leave with a proud smile as his eyes twinkled and Jihoon hated how that mother fucker of a best friend was towering over him as his face scrunched. "Pay the bill asshole," he grumbled monotonously while the other boy gave him one of his rarest brightening smile which was definitely conserved for one and only Kim Mingyu which the said person wasn't aware of at all.
Jihoon just watched the taller boy springing towards the cashier as he simply shook his head at the love struck cat as if he wasn't one of them, sipping on his coffee before stretching his neck which is sore from working late nights in a row. 'I should go home early,' his face lit up as he knew what was waiting for him at home. He quickly typed a message, announcing his early returning schedule with a proud smile. He got his belongings to leave the cafe when a worker came to him with a chocolate mousse.
He blinked for a few time, flabbergasted as the worker places it in front of him. "I didn't order any," he finally voiced out after he took in the situation. The worker smiled down at him, "Your friend who just left ordered for you as a thank you."
"Oh," is the only reply the girl got before leaving the table and Jihoon, he still felt like it was a dream that Jeon Wonwoo, his best friend was actually being kind enough to buy him a chocolate mousse willingly!
