As we gathered in the kitchen, the tension was palpable. Gina and Theo looked at us with a mix of concern and determination. I held onto D'Angelo's hand, drawing strength from his presence.
Gina broke the silence first. "So, what's the next step, D'Angelo? We need a plan."
D'Angelo nodded, his jaw set. "First, we need to secure the house. Finneas and the others will be here soon to help. We can't let the Morettis think they have the upper hand."
Theo, who had been pacing, stopped and looked at D'Angelo. "And then what? We can't just stay on the defensive forever."
"We won't," D'Angelo replied. "We need to gather intel on the Morettis. Find out their next move. Hit them where it hurts. But first, we need to make sure we're safe here."
As if on cue, the doorbell rang. D'Angelo moved quickly to the front door, his hand never straying far from the gun at his waist. He opened the door to reveal Finneas and two other men, their faces grim.
"Boss," Finneas greeted, stepping inside. "We've got the perimeter secured. No sign of any threats for now."
"Good," D'Angelo said. "Come in. We need to discuss our next steps."
The men filed in, their presence a reminder of the seriousness of our situation. We gathered around the kitchen table, the weight of the moment pressing down on us.
"We need to be proactive," D'Angelo said, looking at each of us in turn. "Finneas, I want you to take a team and start gathering intel on the Morettis. Find out where they're hiding, who their key players are. Theo, you stay here and help secure the house. Gina, Kylie, I want you to stay close. We can't afford any more surprises."
Gina nodded, her expression resolute. "We'll do whatever it takes to help."
I squeezed D'Angelo's hand. "We're in this together."
He gave me a small, reassuring smile before turning back to the group. "Alright. Let's get to work. We need to stay one step ahead of them."
As everyone moved to their tasks, I felt a mix of fear and determination. The danger was real, but so was our resolve. We would fight for our safety, for our future. Together.
D'Angelo pulled me aside as the others dispersed. "Kylie, I need you to be careful. I can't lose you."
I looked into his eyes, seeing the depth of his worry and love. "I will be. And you need to be careful too. We need you."
He kissed me softly, a promise in the touch. "I will. We're going to get through this."
The day passed in a blur of activity. Finneas and his team left to gather intel, while Theo and the remaining men fortified the house. Gina and I stayed inside, helping where we could, but mostly trying to stay out of the way. The tension was high, but there was also a sense of purpose. We were preparing for whatever came next.
