CHAPTER FIVE; ignoring every bit of drama and each little lie

AFTER SPENDING almost fifteen minutes walking around aimlessly, Elizabeth came to the realization that she had no idea where she was going. She then set off to find Principal Weems, who she had spotted earlier on.

When she got there, Weems was already talking to a woman with wild hair. A girl stood next to the woman, and her blonde hair with bright pink and blue tips was a stark contrast against the grays of the woman. Every single thing about her, from her knit sweater to her skirt to her painted fingernails, screamed, "Hi! Look at me! I'm so colorful and bright! Glitter makes everything better!" But she seemed cool.

Elizabeth stopped a couple of yards away, not wanting to disturb their conversation. She definitely didn't feel like eavesdropping either. From what she could hear, the principal and the woman seemed to be discussing a topic that the girl was clearly unhappy and uncomfortable about.

But all of a sudden, the woman looked alarmed. She sniffed the air—or at least, that was what it appeared she was doing—before she turned to fix Elizabeth with a mixture of surprise, shock, and annoyance on her face.

Weems turned to look at her, too. "Hello." She glanced at her clipboard. "Oh, you're in Ophelia Hall. You'll be roommates with Enid," she told Elizabeth as she pointed to the girl with the colorful outfit.

Enid beamed, her face lighting up. "Howdy, roomie!"

"Hello," Elizabeth said. "Do you perhaps know which way 'Ophelia Hall' is?"

"Of course! I got here super early sooooo I had a bunch of time to explore!" Enid grabbed Elizabeth's wrist and dragged her away. "Wait, oh my gosh, do you have Instagram?"

"Yeah, I do," Elizabeth responded. "It's 'imthebetteranderson'."

"Ooh, cool! I'll add you!"

Elizabeth inhaled sharply. Did this girl know how to talk without an exclamation mark? Still, it would be nice to get to know her. She was really sweet.

Enid led her to a dorm room, and she pushed open the door to let Elizabeth in first. It was dark inside, and the wooden beams and shafts made it feel like a wooden cabin that one might have found in a forest, but there was a huge, circular piece of glass on one wall that led to the balcony. A bunk bed lined each of the two walls, but clearly the top bunk was occupied by a huge collection of stuffed animals. Several bright suitcases and duffel bags were already dumped on the floor, and Elizabeth assumed that it was the rest of Enid's belongings.
