chrissy stood in front of the mirror, adjusting her dress and applying the final touches to her makeup. the varsity jv dinner was fast approaching, and she wanted to look her best. as she carefully styled her hair, connie and julie walked around the room, getting ready as well.

"ready for tonight?" connie asked sat on her bed across the room.

chrissy smiled, trying to hide her nervousness. "almost." she needed it to go perfect. it was already hard enough dating a member of the varsity team, the last thing she needed was for this rivalry to draw a line further in the sand.

julie exchanged a glance with connie before stepping closer. "so, we've noticed you've been a bit... elusive lately. where've you been disappearing to?"

chrissy's heart raced, but she kept her tone light. "oh, you know, just busy with schoolwork and stuff."

connie raised an eyebrow, not fully convinced. chrissy's lied before, and they just wanted to be sure. "really?"

chrissy felt a pang of guilt but maintained her calm facade. "yeah, sort of. i've also been trying to get some extra practice in. you know, just working on my skills."

julie looked at her skeptically but decided to drop it. "alright, if you say so. just don't overdo it, okay?"

"mm-hmm." chrissy replied, relieved. "i'll be fine."

with her makeup done and hair perfectly styled, chrissy slipped on her shoes and stood up. "well, i'm ready. let's head out."

as they walked outside, chrissy spotted the rest of the ducks waiting by the entrance. the cool evening air felt refreshing against her skin, and she took a deep breath, trying to calm the fluttering in her stomach.

charlie was the first to notice her arrival. his eyes widened, and his jaw dropped slightly as he took in her appearance. she looked stunning, her dress accentuating her figure and her hair cascading down her shoulders. he couldn't take his eyes off her.

"wow, chrissy," he finally managed to say, his voice filled with awe.

chrissy felt a blush creep up her cheeks. "don't laugh at me, okay?" she added, expecting their usual playful banter.

charlie shook his head, his eyes never leaving hers. "why would i laugh? you look beautiful."

chrissy's blush deepened, her heart fluttering at his words. "thanks," she said softly, a smile playing at her lips.

just then, adam walked up, his presence immediately breaking the moment. "hey, chris. ready to go?" he asked, his tone casual but his eyes flickering between her and charlie.
