Haizaki's POV

The whole day Y/n has been acting weird. She keeps looking at me with some sort of anticipation. It was like she was waiting for something, but I didn't know what. At first i thought she was excited about my big match today, but it wasn't that. It was something else.

"Haizaki, focus!" Endou's voice rang in my ears.

I shot him a glare before doing kick ups with the ball and practicing my shooting. However, I couldn't help but notice all the managers. The way they surrounded Y/n and pat her back. Did something happen?

As the hours passed, training was finally over. I hurried over to Y/n.

"Y/n, you okay?" I asked her, my eyes narrowing as I looked her up at down for any sign of discomfort.

She looked up at me, her eyes softening before looking away. I could tell something was up. Usually, she would look me in the eye whenever i spoke to her.

"What date is it today?" She asked. I shrugged my shoulders.

"You know I'm not good with dates—"

"Haizaki." Her voice was stern and sharp.

My eyes widened a bit, I'd never seen her like this before. She was usually care free and soft spoken. Seeing her so stern was unsettling.

"I don't know the date today." I admitted. "But why does that matter, I just want to know why you're sad.  I see the look in your eyes, just tell me." I reached my hand out to cup her cheek.

"It's our anniversary today."

I froze in place, my hand just in the air. I had never been good with dates, yet this one I should have remembered no matter what.

"Y/n—"

"Save it. Just save it, Haizaki. I'm sick and tired of you forgetting things like this." Y/n interrupted him, a hint of sadness lingering in her tone. "You know, ever since the FFI started, you've been really.. distracted."

My lips trembled as I brushed some of my hair out of my eye. I'd never regretted something as much as I did this. this was our special day. i knew how much she cherished these things. on my birthday, she surprised me with a trip to the amusement park. on our first anniversary, she baked a cake for me and wrote me a letter to say thank you for being there. i felt like shit - because a year since that day i wasnt there for her. i had forgotten our special day.

"I'm sorry, but I promise ill make it up to you." i tried to hold her hand, but she pried herself away from me. she couldn't even look me in the eyes. her head was hung low, playing with the beads of her bracelet.

"im so sick and tired of this. i cant do this anymore." y/n whispered. "you clearly dont have time for distractions." my eyes widened.

"dont say that."

"its true. right now you have so many other things to focus on. the FFI isnt the only think you're worried about. i know it."

"y/n." i tried to hold her hand again, but she was already slipping away from me.

"ill see you tomorrow." she disappeared within seconds, hurrying away to the field. i felt my world collapse. i lost the one person i truly love - and i was determined to get her back.
