*KATE’S POV*
(The next day)
I walked out the bathroom in my towel and saw a really pretty dress sitting on my bed. It was purple and had sparkles at the very top. If you’ve seen ’16 Wishes’ (a Disney movie), you would say it looked exactly like the one the main character wore. A note was placed on top and I read it aloud.
“Please wear this dress to the ‘party’ and wait for me in the library when you’re ready to go.”
Once I got changed and everything, I followed the orders and went to the library. Before going, I glanced at the clock.
8:52
“Kate-“Kevin cut himself up when he looked up at me. He was wearing a tuxedo that looked perfect on him. He was so cute in it.
He stared at me, which made me give him a confused look. He snapped back reality and cleared his throat nervously.
“Sorry, I was just…never mind,” he shook his head.
“Anyways, where going to the ‘Masked Magic’ ball, so here.” He handed me a black mask with glitter on the top left corners.
“What about you?” I asked taking the mask form him. He showed me a plain black mask that he had in his other hand.
“I thought it was a party,” I said. He laughed silently and told me, “Chris just said that to make it sound more fun.”
I nodded and we went outside. It was kind of dark, since winter was just around the corner.
Kevin opened the car door for me and I stepped in. He went around to the other side and got in.
We were in a limo-ish car that was black.

The car stopped in front of (what I’m guessing is) a mansion. It was white and had dozens of windows. The driver opened my door and Kevin walked me to the front door. There were a couple people in front of us. A buff man was at the door.
Kevin pulled out, I guess, and invitation, and showed it to the man when we walked up to him. He nodded and we went in. a chandelier hung from the top, and there were a lot of people here. All were wearing masks though. The large walls were white with a pattern.
“Kate!” I heard a familiar voice. Chris appeared in front of us.
“My, you look amazing!” he said winking. I blushed and elbowed him.
“You don’t look so bad yourself.”
He laughed and then turned his attention to Kevin.
“You know who’s here Kevin?” Chris asked. Kevin glared at him, but Chris just smiled. What where they talking about?
“I have to go do something,” Kevin said walking away. He looked around a little bet, probably for the person Chris was talking about.
“I’ll see you later,” Chris said walked off too. I just stood there like an idiot. What was I supposed to do? I probably didn’t know anyone here, except for Kevin and Chris. I looked around a little until a guy came over to me. Like most of the guys here, he was wearing a tuxedo. He also had red eyes, like Kevin’s. He must be a vampire.
“Hey there,” he smiled. I gave him a half smile.
“Hi.”
“So, are you here with someone?” he asked. I was about to say no, but he might ask me to dance or something. He looked kind of rough around the edges (even with a mask on).
“Yeah, he just had to go do something real quick,” I lied. He nodded and left. I wasn’t sure if that was a lie or not though. Was I here with Kevin, or did I just tag along or something? He probably only thinks I tagged along. I mean, he didn’t even invite me, Chris did.
“Hey I need to ask you something,” Chris came out of nowhere. I was surprised by the sudden voice so I yelled inside my head. Good thing it was only inside my head.
“Sure,” I said. He nodded and continued.
“Do you like-like Kevin?” he asked. I could tell I went red.
“N-No, why?” I said.
“That’s good. I didn’t you to get your poor heartbroken,” he confessed.
“The truth is…he has a girlfriend.” He pointed and something and I followed the direction. Kevin was talking to a girl with a beautiful pink dress.
“It’s a good thing you don’t like him,” Chris smiled. He said something else and walked away. I couldn’t hear what he said because all of a sudden, I felt like someone just slapped me or something.
My heart was hurting a little. What’s going on with me? I’ve never felt like this before. Why was this getting to me? I shouldn’t care if he already has a…girlfriend. The word made me feel worse. I can’t believe it though. How could he have a girlfriend? I know I shouldn’t be feeling this, but I think I might actually like him.
But it doesn’t even matter. He has a girlfriend. He’ll probably marry her and they’ll live happily-ever-after. He would just leave me here all alone.
I felt tears forming in my eyes and ran to the front door.
I took my mask off and threw it to the ground. My hands covered my face and tears started coming out. I don’t know how, but I walked away from the mansion with my hands still covering my eyes.
‘Masked Magic,’ what kind of name is that? There’s nothing magical about tonight. I shouldn’t have come. This whole night was so stupid.
I removed my hands from my face but as soon as I did, a something came close to my nose. I breathed in and started feeling weird. My eyelids got heavier and heavier and I felt calm. And then I drifted off.
