“What do you mean your plan?” my mind started to wonder what they wanted to do with her. She was the white rabbit, but it never really occurred to me what they wanted to do to her so badly as to keep looking for her throughout the years.
“That is none of your concern Kevin. What you should be worrying about it whether or not you’re still qualified to keep proceeding with your job. I have the right mind to hand this mission to someone else of my liking, but I won’t because I still have faith in you Kevin and you’ve always proven me that you can finish a task without trouble.”
I stared at him in realization. He was right, I had always done my tasks and never had a problem, but that was before he assigned me this one. How come this was the first time I’ve actually developed feelings for someone I was supposed to protect.
“You’ve been working too much, that’s probably the reason why you think you have feelings for her. You never interact with others socially very much and since she’s from the outside world, you’re just feeling things that aren’t there.”
Maybe he was right. I never do go out with friends or meet new people. Maybe it’s just that I only know work and assignments, and I was just seeking a friend.
“You don’t know her very much; it doesn’t make much sense that you’ve fallen for her, does it? And she’s the white rabbit. You know how different she is from vampire and humans, you just find her intriguing, which was mistaken for love.”
Could I really have mistaken the ‘strong’ feeling I have for her?
My thoughts searched for answers and my father seemed to know exactly what I was thinking.
“This is business Kevin and I know that you wouldn’t let some girl come between you and your work. Don’t let some interesting girl trick you into believing you like her. When have you ever been known for not doing your job, much less for falling in love with a creature that you know you’ll never be with?”
Everything he said was true. Everyone knew me as the prince, the one who never disappointed, who always got the job done. I felt myself nod as my mind still processed that I actually might not have feeling for Kate. My father always knew the truth, which was that the feeling I thought I felt for her was just my imagination.
ALEX’S POV
I put on a straight face as I sat down next to one of the elders. My eyes roamed around the big dark room. The dungeon like walls surrounded us all as the six elders were spread around an oval shaped table. It was long enough for all the elders, the kings, and the Forgivers. I was a part of the Forgivers, which really didn’t suit me because of my personal opinions, yet I was still a part of it. It was only because of the fact that I wasn’t just known to be the black rabbit. Everyone already knew that I was also a vampire.
“Where is Kevin and King Brook?” I asked Drake, who was seated on the left side of me.
“I heard something really important came up and King Brook had to take care of something with Kevin,” he informed me.
I chuckled to myself, knowing exactly what must’ve happened.
“What?” Drake looked at me with confusion.
“Looks like King Brook is brainwashing him again.”
“He does have a way of convincing people. Heck, he could probably get him to think he killed someone if he could.” We both laughed at the thought. I could just imagine King Brook telling his son that he killed an elder. He’d believe him in an instant, but not because he’s dumb, but because King Brook always had a way of persuading people and getting into their head.
“Let us start,” the old man began. That’s what I always called him- old man. Not just because he was an elder, but because he always looked after everyone as if they were his kids. Like me for example, I sometimes go to him to just talk about important tasks or to just start a conversation. For my age, I was pretty good at stimulating conversation and acting like an adult.
The sound of the one door to the side of the room snapped me out of thought. The heavy wood groaned as it opened. Adam stepped into the room as the door quickly closed behind him.
His eyes met mines as I stared back at him with a smirk.
“You have been found guilty of kidnapping the white rabbit and for trying to commit the murder of Kevin Brook,” the old man stated.
Elder Forn spoke next.
“Your actions have disgraced the council and the World of Bathons. People now know about the white rabbit and that is because of you. You must be punished for such deeds and for exposing the identity of the white rabbit.”
I made sure to look at Adam with the coldest expression I could have as it was my turn to speak.
“As punishment, you’re sentenced to death by acid absorption.”
My favorite part of these court-like meetings is the punishment. Vampires are very hard to kill since they live for millions of years and their bodies are made to heal, so death must be preceded by destroying the body, such as burning it with acid or turning it to ash with fire.
I’ve always had a sick mind for punishing people, but it’s not as bad as it sounds. I only resort to killing for justice and for important needs. It’s not really that surprising for me to be one of the Forgivers, because I’m not really as bad as I make myself to be. All I do it use my strength and power, but it’s not always for bad deeds.
The punishment had been decided by everyone in the meeting that had taken place hours ago , which Kevin and King Brook also hadn’t been able to attend.
“Escort him to the doom room,” the old man told a guard that stood by close to Adam. He nodded and dragged him out as Adam’s head hung low. No feeling of pity or sorrow came from anyone. What he did was stupid and there seemed like no other choice but to send him off to a painful death.
