"I'm so glad you came, Calypso," Lexi was saying to her, giving her a hug.
Calypso yanked her eyes away from the man and smiled at Lexi. "It good to see you too, Lexi."
"My cousin, Cade came with us," Lexi said, dragging Calypso over to the man she'd been staring at. "Cade, this is Dane's sister, Calypso."
He stood and smiled at her. "Nice to meet you."
Calypso stared up at him, surprised at his height. He was even more handsome up close. "You too," she whispered, suddenly feeling shy as he studied her intently.
"Calypso? Come help me in the kitchen," called her mother.
She flashed a smile at him. "Excuse me." Then she turned and walked away, aware of his eyes on her, burning into her.
She hurried into the house. That man had to be the most gorgeous man she'd ever seen in her life. Her heart was racing after their encounter. She took a deep breath. "What do you need, Mom?"
"Can you help me with these trays?" Maureen asked.
"Sure," Calypso agreed. She couldn't get her mind off of him though. What had Lexi said his name was? Cade. Her gaze darted up to the window to see Dane standing there talking to him.
Calypso let her gaze trail over him now that he couldn't see her staring. He was very beautiful, in a rugged way. She couldn't peel her eyes off of him. He was perfection.
And he was probably a werewolf, she realized. Maybe. She had no idea how Lexi had become one, but Cade was her cousin. So he might be one too? She couldn't be sure on that. There were times she wanted to ask Lexi questions but she didn't want to seem intrusive and those felt like intrusive questions.
"Mom, have you ever met Lexi's cousin before?" Calypso asked.
"No. Though Lexi mentions him quite a bit and I'm sure he was at their mating ceremony. He's quite a handsome young man," Maureen said, placing another tray in front of Calypso.
Handsome was an understatement. The man oozed sex appeal. Walking sex. She didn't even really like sex, but with him? She might make an exception. She stopped herself almost scoffing out loud. Cade wasn't likely to be anything more than polite to her. Chances were she probably would never even see him again. She wondered if he was in town visiting Lexi. He probably didn't even live around here.
She looked back down at the tray she was arranging, wondering who was going to be eating all of this food. She glanced back up at the men. Dane looked like he'd bulked up some, she noticed, wondering about that. Maybe he ate more now. Who knew. She tried not to, but her weight still clung to her body stubbornly. She sighed.
"Calypso, are you okay?"
She looked at her mom and gave her a small smile. "I'm fine."
She could tell Maureen didn't believe her, but she didn't ask any other questions. "You want to carry these outside?"
Not really. She just wanted to hide in here, but she couldn't. "Sure."
She picked up both trays, hoping she didn't make a fool out of herself and drop one of them, then headed out the door. She was aware of his eyes on her the moment she stepped out and she wanted to turn around and walk back inside. She avoided meeting his gaze until he suddenly stood and walked up to her. Even without looking at him, she was aware of him walking towards her.
"Can I help you with one of those?"
The man had a nice voice. Smooth and warm and it made her tingle. She stared up into his intense blue eyes for a long few seconds and realized she needed to answer his question and stop staring at him like an infatuated school girl. "Um, sure."
