Calypso watched Cade ride away on his bike and sighed. She really hadn't wanted him to leave. But she knew he probably had better things to do with his time.
She'd shut off her thoughts for a while there and just let herself enjoy hanging out with him. And she'd really enjoyed it. She still couldn't believe he'd kissed her. Over and over and over again. Her fingers traveled up to gently touch her own lips. He'd left her wanting more.
Cade had surprised her. She still couldn't wrap her head around the fact that she was his mate. His soulmate. Or that he was even interested in her. But it had almost been like he could barely stop kissing her. He didn't have to, but he had so many times.
Did she want this? Yes and no. Yes, she wanted to be able to hang out with him and kiss him whenever, but she was afraid of him hurting her. Of him suddenly making the decision that he didn't want her and walking away. She sighed.
She realized she was still holding her phone and glanced down at it, at Cade's number. He'd listed himself in her phone as Mate. She smiled. He took this whole mate thing very seriously.
But she'd be lying if she said she didn't feel a connection with him. She had ever since she'd laid eyes on him. She missed him when he wasn't around. She missed him now. She wanted to call him and tell him to come back, to kiss her again.
Instead, she decided to do something else. She called Dane.
"Hey Calypso. What's up?"
"Dane, can we talk?" she asked.
"Talk."
She sighed. "In person?"
"Where are you?" His voice had changed a bit now, showing more concern.
"Headed home here in a minute," she said, starting her car.
"Alone or do you care if I bring Lexi with me?"
"Alone." She'd already decided she wanted to get to know Lexi better, but today she really needed to talk to Dane alone.
"Okay. I'll be at your house here shortly," he said.
"Thank you, Dane." She breathed a small sigh of relief and hung up the phone, then headed home.
Once she was home, she headed inside and tossed her bag down. She hadn't seen Dane since the family dinner and wondered if he knew that she was Cade's mate. How often did he see Cade? Cade did say they lived in the same large house. But he'd also said something about an apartment.
A knock sounded at her door and she walked over and glanced through her peephole. Dane was standing outside. She opened the door.
"Hi."
"Hi Dane. Come on in."
Calypso watched him walk inside, and frowned. Apparently living with werewolves had inspired her brother to start working out as well. He looked very muscular now.
He followed her into the kitchen and sat down at the table. "What's up?"
She sat down across from him. "Dane, what do you know about Cade?"
His eyes flickered in surprise. "I know he's your mate."
"How long have you known?"
"Since the cookout," he admitted.
"You've known that long and you've never told me?" She shot a glare at him and crossed her arms.
He sighed. "I'm not getting involved."
Calypso sat back at that, rubbing her hand over her face. "I have no one to talk to about this."
"What do you want to talk about?" Dane stood and walked over to her refrigerator and pulled out a pitcher of tea. "Where are your cups?"
