Dane carefully closed his bedroom door behind him and headed down the hallway and out into the living room. Lexi was finally asleep. She was tired quite often, and he worried about her way more than he should. Dr. Ben had told him it was normal though. Both he and his wolf were overprotective of their mate and their unborn pup and would be for a while now.
He was fine with that, though he had a feeling he was driving her a bit crazy with his overprotectiveness but he didn't care. Lexi meant the world to him and so did this pup. He'd do anything to keep them both safe. His ringing cell pulled him from his thoughts and he glanced at it. His sister. "Hey Calypso. What's up?"
"Dane, can we talk?" she asked.
"Talk." She never called him. They usually just texted each other and even that wasn't often. He hated how she was now. A broken shell of the woman that she'd once been. He wondered if Cade was making any progress with her.
She sighed. "In person?"
"Where are you?" This was different, and had him concerned.
"Headed home here in a minute," she said.
"Alone or do you care if I bring Lexi with me?" He didn't want to wake Lexi, but he honestly had a feeling she'd want to talk alone. Dane wasn't sure that Calypso even liked Lexi.
"Alone."
"Okay. I'll be at your house here shortly," he said, not at all surprised by that.
"Thank you, Dane." The call disconnected and Dane popped his phone into his pocket, then grabbed his keys and headed out of the apartment. He took the elevator down and then headed over to the garage to get in his car. Hey Nick, I'm going to see my sister. Lexi's still home. Shouldn't be gone long.
Thanks for letting me know, Dane.
He got in the car and pulled it out of the garage and took off for Calypso's house. He'd only been there a few times, when she'd first moved in. She'd become such a loner since she'd moved there. He sort of wished she'd stayed at their parents' home. He really didn't think being alone was good for her. He pulled in her driveway and got out of the car, then walked up to the door and knocked.
Calypso opened the door a moment later and Dane was immediately hit with Cade's scent, startling him. "Hi." Apparently Cade was seeing her.
"Hi Dane. Come on in."
He followed her into the kitchen and sat down at the table. "What's up?"
She sat down across from him. "Dane, what do you know about Cade?"
Well, here went nothing. "I know he's your mate."
"How long have you known?"
"Since the cookout," he admitted sheepishly. She wasn't going to be happy about that.
"You've known that long and you've never told me?" She shot a glare at him and crossed her arms.
He sighed. "I'm not getting involved."
Calypso sat back at that, rubbing her hand over her face. "I have no one to talk to about this."
"What do you want to talk about?" Dane stood and walked over to her refrigerator and pulled out a pitcher of tea, putting some distance between them. He could understand why she needed to talk though. "Where are your cups?"
"Next to the sink."
He pulled one out, then turned to her. "Do you want some?"
She nodded. "Can I trust him?"
