aslan returns...
"Aslan!" Lucy grinned, running up to the great lion. He laughed, falling over when she hugged him. "I knew it was you. The whole time, I knew it. The others didn't believe me; well, Alex believed me, but..."
"And why would that stop you from coming to me?"
"I'm sorry. I was too scared to come alone. I didn't want to bother Alex; she's been having horrible visions, and Peter-" She tilted her head. "Why wouldn't you show yourself? Why couldn't you come roaring in and save us like last time?"
"Things never happen the same way twice, dear one."
...
The foot soldiers gained land by the second. Alex's heart pounded, slicing through another man. She began to worry more and more for the Narnians and their fight. They were doing well, but a thousand more men were bound to cause mass casualties. She took in her surroundings, trying to estimate how safe she would be if she passed out.
She didn't feel like fainting, but if her fainting was the result of another earthquake that seriously detriated enemy forces and saved her army, she would prefer not to be instantly killed by a Telmarine.
Peter scanned the field, stopping on Alex's perfectly still figure. Three Telmarine soldiers also saw her standing still, all with similar ideas. Peter's heart dropped. "Alex!"
She shook her head and clamped her eyes shut, focusing on the earth. "A little busy, Peter!"
"Alex, don't!"
She ignored his cries, pushing all distractions out of her mind.
"Alex!"
She groaned, opening her eyes. "Peter, stop distracting me-" A Telmarine soldier stood two feet in front of her. She held her swords in front of her, waiting for him to make the first strike.
He stepped towards her, about to clash swords, when another sword pierced his stomach. They both stared at the wound, then back at each other. He fell to the ground; behind him stood Peter, panting.
"I had it sort-" He stalked over to her, grabbed her waist, and kissed her quickly. She melted in his arms, laughing. "What was that for?"
"Just don't do that again."
"I wasn't doing anything."
"I know what you were doing." He said, turning around to see if anyone was approaching. "And while I admire your passion, I refuse to let you do it. We talked about this."
"I have full autonomy of my own body, Peter."
"I know that, darling." His sword clashed with another. "I was merely making sure you didn't die."
She smiled, slashing the soldier Peter was fighting twice, wincing as he fell to the ground. He laughed, turning back towards her. "Thank you."
Alex kissed his cheek, tearing through the field. She stabbed a soldier in the stomach, kicking him back into the pit. Just as she was about to fight another, roots burst out of the ground, wrapped around his ankles, and threw him into the abyss.
The trees were tearing themselves out of the ground, attacking every Telmarine in their path. She ran over to Peter and Caspian, pure awe etched on their faces. "Lucy."
The branches pummeled through the earth, destroying everything that came through their path. "For Aslan!"
They chased the Telmarines through the woods, stopping at the river. "Peter, look!" She pointed across the bridge, Lucy and Aslan standing valiantly on the other side.
