𝐋𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐒𝐒𝐀'𝐒 𝐏𝐎𝐕as i stepped into wednesday and enid's shared dorm room, i was paralyzed with shock, frozen in the doorway beside thornhill.
we both took in the scene before us, our eyes wide as they darted over the chaotic mess. wednesday's side of the room, with its distinctly gothic decor, was a disaster.
several books, which should have been securely locked away in the nightshade library, lay scattered across the floor. her wooden antique desk was piled high with notes, loose papers, and pens drained of ink.
dominating the brick wall beside her bed was a massive map of greece, held up with blue tack, pinpoints scattered across a specific deserted island.
empty coffee cups overflowed from the trash can, and the mirror hanging on the closet door was rendered useless by the sheer number of sticky notes covering its surface.
meanwhile, wednesday remained oblivious to our presence or perhaps she was fully aware and simply didn't care. she paced around her side of the room, her eyes wide with a manic intensity that deeply worried me.
yet, despite my concern, i couldn't suppress the little smile tugging at my lips. her meticulous work was impressive, especially considering the private investigators i had hired couldn't even spell greece.
"wednesday," i called out softly, my voice delicate and cautious.
i didn't want to startle her in such a wild state. i approached slowly, my hands cupped together in front of me, a gentle smile forming on my red lips attempting to bridge the gap between us.
wednesday halted her frantic pacing, her wide black eyes locking onto mine with a determined intensity.
"principal weems," she acknowledged, her voice low and monotone. i exchanged a worried glance with thornhill, my eyebrows slightly furrowed.
i understood the desperate need to find twyla more than anyone, but i couldn't stand by and watch my students unravel in the process.
as i pared my lips to speak, wednesday anticipated me, her voice cutting through the air with a sharp edge.
"your private investigators didn't find anything, did they?" she questioned, folding her arms with a touch of smugness glinting in her dark eyes.
"no," i replied, blinking in confusion as i waited for her to elaborate.
my eyes drifted momentarily to enid, who had lazily made her way to her bed. she sank onto the edge with an exhausted slump, her feet barely grazing the floor, a picture of fatigue.
wednesday continued, her words tumbling out with urgent clarity. "kefalonia is the sixth largest island in greece, and approximately thirty-five thousand people live there—"
i raised my hand, interrupting her rapid-fire explanation. the sheer volume of information was overwhelming, and my brain struggled to keep up.
wednesday's lips snapped shut for a moment, her jaw tightening in frustration as she tilted her head slightly. the determination in her eyes was unwavering.
"i promise i'm going somewhere with this," wednesday stated bluntly, her gaze fixed firmly on me.
her tone was so matter-of-fact that i rubbed my forehead, a sigh escaping my lips. i nodded in reluctant agreement, signaling her to continue despite my growing exhaustion.
