Part 8: Ambush

-Naruto POV-
I was standing across from Zabuza who was teaching me new jutsu. He had just taught me the water jet jutsu, a jutsu where the user blasted a high pressure stream of water from their mouths.

"Now, the best thing about this jutsu, and jutsu like it, is that it can easily be evolved into new techniques or used to create new techniques." He said.

I nodded. "It's like Great Breakthrough." I said.

He nodded. "Exactly. I have to go take over for Suisha and Sakura." He said before leaving me alone.

I struck a thinking pose. "Made into new jutsu, huh?..." I thought to myself before unsealing my journal.

I opened up to the page on wind jutsu I wanted to learn/create. The first was wind bullet. I ran through the hand seals for great breakthrough, which were very simple. I added another hand seal to increase control, so I could shape it better. I shaped the wind in my throat and short it out at a tree. I missed horribly and the wind dissipated almost immediately. I made about fifty shadow clones and we all got to work. It only took a day before we managed to get it down good enough to leave a sizable crater in the tree.

I did the same with water after, but it wasn't as effective at all, so it was back to the drawing board for that. I managed to refine my wind blade some too, it was now much easier to control. I got it to the point that it just extended and expanded the blade, but it added way more power and created much wider cuts.

I made my wind sensory jutsu much more accurate and sharp. I added only one hand seal to control it better at longer range. I named the jutsu 'Wind Shift' because that's what I could sense, the shifting and displacement in the wind. It was quickly becoming one of my most useful jutsu.

One day I was in mine and Suigetsu's room, drawing up seals when I got an idea. I drew the seal that I'd gotten from the Kyuubi, then I began working on a new one, using the first as a reference. I changed a few kanji and added the kanji for water in a few spots. I jumped up and ran out of the room with my new seal in hand. I found Suigetsu playing with Tazuna's grandson, filling his mind with bad ideas.

"Suigetsu! Hit me with a water jutsu!" I called.

He did a hand seal and blasted water from his mouth. I set my sealing scroll onto the ground and right as the water passed over, it was sucked down into the seal. He furrowed his brow and shot another one, which was also sucked in.

He narrowed his eyes. "The hell?" He asked.

Zabuza stepped out of the tree line. "That's a nifty little seal. Mind if I try?" He asked as he stood next to the edge of the water.

I did a handseal and blasted all the water Suigetsu shot at me, back at him in one large blast from the return seal on my glove. He barely managed to dodge. "Not cool!" He called.

Zabuza did a series of hand seals and took a deep breath. "Suiton: Sea Demon!" He called and water started blasting at me from the ocean, it was a massive torrent. I activated my seal again and it started absorbing the water. The more it absorbed, the more chakra I felt being drained from myself.

About eight minutes later, I was on my hands and knees, panting. I felt so weak, I couldn't move.

Zabuza stopped and walked over. "Wow, that seal can store a lot of water." He said.

I tried to nod and respond, but I couldn't move. He squatted down in front of me. "You good kid?" He asked before poking me. I collapsed to the ground and passed out.

I woke up the next day and instead of going to ask what happened, I got to work on the seal, it obviously needed to be refined and improved. I made a wind variant too. I worked vigorously for hours until there was a knock at the door.
