"I need permission for something."

It was the weekly check in, on Saturday, and Sonia had come up with an idea to further her goals. The group had gotten used to her being at their table, and were unknowingly spilling information at a startling rate, but it still wasn't enough. Sonia needed to make sure they thought they could trust her with important information, like the activities of Team Valiant or the latest moves and identities of the Black Swan- so she made a plan.

"I need to tell them that you've approached me as a sleeper agent, but I refused. It's the only way I can see of helping them to trust me with their secrets." Fintan nodded, rubbing his chin. She waited.

"It's got merit, I'll give you that. But what if they think you lied about the last part? We can't compromise our best spy on a plain-sight mission."

"Would a sleeper agent tell anyone that she was one? Come on. It's the only path forward, and if I can't do it then Vespera brings in Carnage." Sonia knew Fintan was on the same level as her morally. Her effort paid off as Fintan went pale.

"All right. But you must give no details about yourself besides the ones they already knew. If possible, lead them on a wild-goose chase, but do not compromise anything real." Sonia nodded.

"I know the drill."

"How's it going?" Linh asked.

Sonia had quickly become a favorite of the Song twins, so she almost always sat next to them. She found that if she sat next to Linh, then she would be across from Dex- a member of Team Valiant and one of the most lax about its secrets.

"Fine, except... I'm sure you can keep a secret, but not Gossip Queen over there." She pointed to Marella on Linh's other side, and Linh giggled.

"I'm sure it's fine. Just whisper it to me." Sonia nodded, and put her hand up to her mouth.

"The Neverseen approached me, or at least, I'm pretty sure." Linh didn't say a word, but her mouth rounded into an 'o' shape. Her eyes widened.

"Did you accept?"

"No! But I saw who tried to turn me. He had a blond buzz cut, and creepy grayish blue eyes. Do you know who he is?" Linh nodded urgently.

"That's Gethen. He's one of their better agents, so you must be pretty important to them." They let the silence widen.

"Do we tell anyone?"

"...Magnate Leto. I'm sure he'll know what to do."

Well, this would be eventful.

"Magnate Leto, this is Sonia Nox. She has something... Neverseen related to tell you."

Linh and Sonia had headed for his office right after lunch ended, and Sonia had no clue why- unless the Magnate was a member of the Black Swan, which kind of made sense.

"Really? You kids have to tell me things like this sooner." His eyes landed on Sonia. "What do you need to tell me?"

"Sir, the Neverseen tried to recruit me to their side." Noticing his stare, she added, "I refused." The Magnate stood up and paced around his desk.

"Well, the Neverseen have tried to drag you into this mess. I apologize." Turning his attention back to Linh, he addressed her. "Can Miss Nox be trusted?" Linh agreed, and Sonia sighed in thankfulness internally. One more person on her side.

"Then my decision is made. Sonia, are your parents fine with you being away from home?" She didn't need any consideration of that. Ruy and Fintan would be fine with her being away, if she got quality information for the mission. She nodded.

"After school, all of you should see me here. We're going to Lumentide."

"I will do everything in my power to help my world." It was the fourth time that Sonia had said that, and she was starting to get really frustrated with the Black Swan technology.

Apparently, when she was being completely honest, the box would open. Plus, it didn't have any exposed circuitry she could access, so that was out.

"I will do everything in my power to help my world." She tried to add meaning to the words, hoping to convince the box that she was being honest.

It clicked open.

She immediately pried the lid up. Inside there was a Black Swan monocle like the ones everyone else wore, along with a small Prattles' pin. She examined it, then realized that there was a note attached to its small leather thong. She opened it quickly, almost ripping the edge of the worn paper.

Congratulations, Codename Silvia.

The pin was a moonlark.
