It was the Monday morning after the shooting, and there was nothing sent to my office

It was the Monday morning after the shooting, and there was nothing sent to my office. I made my way through the police office bypassing the front desk and going straight to the Captain's office. The department is so corrupt and I am sick of it.

I open the door and clearly he was in the middle of a meeting with the two detectives that were at the club.

"Good everyone is already in attendance." I said closing the door behind me.

The Captain sighed. "Ms. Thomas, I have already told you, you cannot just come to my office whenever you feel like it."

"Well I asked that you have all the evidence from the shooting in my office first thing and yet it wasn't there, so if you don't want me to visit make sure your team is actually doing their job. This is a big case and the state does not want another embarrassing lost against Ms. Johnson and her organization."

He sighed in defeat because I was right. Imani getting off was a big upset and an embarrassment to the district attorney's office. But now that I am on the case I will ensure that does not happen again.

"I am have done some research on this case and the fact that she was let go is absolutely absurd. I don't want to point any fingers, but the detective work seemed a bit off." I said. I've has only 5 months to study this case and anyone with a good lawyer education could see there is a mole. She was let go for lack of evidence, and it was clear she knew when the police would show up and when to have a good alibi. Something was very off to me.

"Excuse me? We did almost 3 years of work to catch Imani Johnson, and yet it was your office that couldn't get the job done." One of the detectives said. I remembered she was the one that helped me to safety out of the club. She was gorgeous and it blew my mind that she was a detective. I have her to thank for me being alive but I have to remain focus.

"Detective James is it?" I said and she just cocked her head to the side waiting for me to speak. "Yes, you did 3 years of work, but what was giving did not scream 3 years of work. We tried to make it work, but you cannot build a house without a foundation."

She instantly stood up and towered over me. She had to be about 5'10. I took one step backwards to put some space between us.

"James. Back up." The captain commanded. "Look Ms. Thomas, I'll have Detective Jackson and Detective James bring all the evidence they have gathered on Imani Johnson by the end of tomorrow."

"What?" Megan said redirecting her attention from me on to the Captain. He just waved his hand and Megan sucked her teeth before sitting back down.

He continued "We are still investigating the shooting and will have that information sent over as soon as possible."

"Fine." I said before looking at the two detectives, but when I looked at Megan she was giving me an evil glare and I couldn't help but be petty and smile at her.

Megan's pov

I watched Victoria leave and rolled my eyes at her pettiness. She is going to be harder to manipulate like I did the last lawyer that was on this case. She already doesn't trust our department so I must do something so she can trust me.

"Sorry cap about that." I said.

"Its fine. Ms. Thomas is an overachiever lawyer and a pain in my ass. Just make sure you have what she wants by tomorrow. I don't want or need another visit from her."

"We're about to head back to the club. The judge issued a warrant to take the security camera footage." Toni said.

"Actually, Toni you go ahead. I will go ahead and give Ms. Thomas a visit today." I looked at the Captain and he looked confused. "Clearly she is a fan of unexpected visits so why not return the favor."

He nodded. "That's fine with me. Jackson you okay with that?"

Toni looked at me and then nodded.

Captain dismissed us and I went to archives to receive all the evidence on Imani. I need to show that Imani was never documented being anywhere near or having the ability to operate a drug empire. Thanks to my help.

I loaded my car and made my way over to Victoria's office. She is an interesting person, and I can't wait to see how I can get in her head.
