Megan pov

I sat at my desk staring at a blank screen. After the debriefing the case went from an investigation on a shooting to a RICO charge. The DA is hoping Imani would turn and testify against Bobby in return they'll give her full immunity and a stay in Witness Protection. It is not a bad deal, but I know Imani won't go for it. Her loyalty has always been to Bobby once she found her at 16 after her mom tried her hardest to keep him away from her.

I discovered Bobby was her father about a year in investigating her. No one could figure out who her supplier was, but we knew she was dealing and at the time no one believed a young 20 something year old could run an empire like that. However, despite them keeping their father-daughter business a secret they forgot to cross one T off the list: her club. She didn't get a loan money was just deposited into her account and she bought a club. I traced the account that wired her the money to some bank in the Bahamas and I was able to find the owner of the account. At the time, it was the biggest break in the case, but just as I was capitalizing on the accomplishment, Imani approached me with an offer.

Somehow, she found out my mom was sick and offered to pay her bills and cut me a little here and there. My mom has been in remission for the last year and Imani is still paying the bill. I know I could stop being that my mom is getting better, but who's to say she won't just kill her. After the shooting, I know that is a strong possibility.

"James!" I heard my name being called and snapped out my thoughts. I turned around and it was Toni.

"Yes, Sorry I was just daydreaming."

"Yea okay. The DA office is requesting one of us to head down there to go over the updated charges."

"Okay and you can't go?" I said. I usually take any opportunity to see Victoria but recently it's been all business with her.

"Thought it would be easier since Ms. Thomas for some reason seems to actually be nice to you and I don't want to deal with her attitude."

"Fine I'll go." I guess it wouldn't hurt to go see Victoria. She refuses to tell me how she made the connection, and it is not documented, so hopefully that information will be given today.

I drove over to the office. I still haven't decided if I wanted to tell Imani what was going on, and since I'm the lead detective I will be the one pulling her in for questioning.

"Detective James, Ms. Thomas is waiting for you." Her secretary said. This is probably the first time I didn't show up uninvited and walk straight pass her.

"Megan, I'm happy it is you. I know I requested you or your partner, but I was hoping it was you that came." She said as I came into her office.

"So, what are the new charges?" I asked while taking a seat. I noticed she scrunched her eyebrows at me ignoring her comment. Then she stared at me trying to read me. Her brown eyes stared deep into me trying to understand why I am closed off, but little does she know I am beyond stressed and worried.

She sat up from reading me with her eyes and grabbed the folder that was on the other side of her desk. Clearly, she in her head and was choosing not to acknowledge it.

"Well, as you know the case is moving forward with RICO charges, the goal is to pull Imani in under the connections before we move for Bobby."

"Wait why not pull them in together? It might be easy to get her to turn if she knows we have him."

"Actually, it wouldn't. We're hoping she'll try to save herself. If we bring her in we can basically get her to be like our CI."

"You really thought this through, huh?" I said then proceeded to get up to leave. "Well let me know when you want to make the arrest."

"Where are you going?" She asked as she got up to follow me to the door.

"I have a lot of work to do, since this is now a RICO charge this is now for real the biggest case of my career. Don't wanna mess up right?" I went to leave but she grabbed my hand and pulled me back. She pulled the blinds down to cover the whole door before turning to me. Once again the brown eyes was staring into my soul.

"What's wrong?" She said placing her hand on my cheek. "You don't seem like yourself." Her soft voice just makes me melt but I can't tell her.

"Just stressed." That was all I could say. I tried to avoid eye contact, but her eyes are so captivating, and I know she can see past my lie. I knew there was only one way to distract her.

I leaned down and met her lips. The kiss was soft but that was all I needed. I didn't want it rough well for now.

I pulled back first. "Can you come over tonight?" I asked not wanting to spend another night alone with everything that is going on.

She nodded and let out a small yea.

I left her office and just didn't go back to work. I have a lot on my mind, and a very hard decision to make about Imani. What is also giving me anxiety is the fact that I don't know everything that led to this type of charge. Something about that just seems off.

I mean wouldn't Victoria tell me?
