Megan's pov

I park in front of the big DA office. I hurry inside to let security know I will need help bringing up boxes of evidence, and the I head up to Victoria's office.

When I get off the elevator I am greeted by a secretary but I keep moving because I can see in one of the glass door offices there stood Victoria.

I walk to her office and open the door. She was facing the window on the phone with someone who wasn't too happy with her. Th person on the other end of the call was stating how unhappy they are with her, and that she never spends time with them. I could tell it was a woman too. Does Victoria like girls? Interesting.

"I guess I should come back another time." I said catching her attention. She instantly turned around and the sound of my voice made the woman on the phone lose her mind.

"Who is that Victoria? Are you cheating on me again-" They started to say. "Look I told you I was at work we can talk later." Victoria said before hanging up the phone.

"Detective James" she said.

"Ms. Thomas" I said.

"I thought we were meeting tomorrow."

"Well clearly you don't follow the scheduling system so me and my colleagues thought why should we?" I said back to her. She did a close mouth smile showcasing her "I see how it is" face before she gesture for me to have a seat.

Our eyes stayed locked the entire time as we challenge each other. One could get lost in those beautiful eyes she has.

"Security is working on bringing up the evidence you requested."

"Oh I am shocked the amount of evidence collected requires assistance. From the research I did, you'd think it'll be in one box"

"You know, Ms. Thomas, we're on the same side. So, if you think we didn't do enough why did your office move forward in prosecuting her?" I said. I usually wouldn't entertain this kind of slander on our office cause I know the truth, but it is something about Victoria that just draws me in.

"Well if it was my call to make I wouldn't have moved forward with the case, but Imani was brought in on DUI charges and for some reason the state thought that it was their chance to take her down. However, with your department's lousy detective work they were not able to seal the deal." She spoke. But as I stared into her eyes, I could tell she was trying to read me. She did believe something was off about the evidence. She never said aloud but I can tell she believes that someone in the office is dirty.

I smirked brushing off what she said about the department. "You know Ms. Thomas you seem like a smart girl, so hopefully this time around you can seal the deal." I said before getting up to leave.

As I was leaving, I seen security dropping off the last of the boxes. When I got on the elevator, I looked back at Victoria's office, and our eyes locked. Her beauty was unmatched. As the doors begin the close, she looked away, and I felt my phone ring.

Unknown Caller

I knew who it was, and I did not feel like talking to her.

Victoria's pov

It was finally the end of the day and I was exhausted. This Imani Johnson's case is definitely one for the books, but I signed up for the challenge and I cannot fail.

I looked at my phone and saw I had 10 missed calls from Janelle. Janelle is my ex/booty call. I cheated on her when we were dating and we've been broken up since, but one day I called her to apologize, and she's been attached even though I was just horny. We're technically not together, but she acts like we are, and I don't know how to tell her because I don't want to hurt her again.

Instead of going home, I decided to head to the bar for a drink. When I arrived there weren't many cars, but then again it is a Monday.

I was sitting at the bar drinking my drink when I noticed a familiar face on the other side of the bar. Just as I noticed her, she looked up and saw me. I quickly looked away hoping she didn't think I was staring. I looked at my phone and saw it was Janelle calling again and declined the call. When I looked back up at the other side of the bar, she was gone. I sighed but not from relief but somewhat from disappointment that she was gone.

"We've got to stop meeting at bars" she said appearing next to me. I somewhat jumped because I didn't expect to come to me.

"Well last time wasn't by choice, Detective James" I said

"The case harder than you thought. And no need to be formal Ms. Thomas"

"Yeah whatever. Why you say that?"

"You're at a bar on a Monday."

I playfully rolled my eyes. "No. The case is just what I expected."

"Oh, was it cause of the call you had earlier."

I shift my body to fully turn to her. "And why were you in my business."

"You had the call on speaker." She joked shrugging and now taking a seat next to me.

"Ugh grow up." I said rolling my eyes. "And why are you here on a Monday"

"You know you should stop rolling those pretty little eyes of yours or else they'll get stuck like that." She said avoiding my question.

I turned away to hide the blush forming.

"Calm down there Ms. Thomas you are a taken woman."

"I am not."

"Oh right. I did hear the part about you being a cheater." She said and I sat up as if someone stuck a knife in my back.

I scuffed at her. She has no right. She barely knows me. I grab my stuff to move away from her, but as I get up to walk away. She grabs my hand.

"Wait Victoria, I'm sorry. I barely know you, so I have no right to speak on that."

I turned to her. "I should get home." I said, pulling my hand away. "Send all the evidence for the shooting to my office inthe morning. No need to escort it." I said before walking away.
