Victoria's pov

Today is the day. I finally got to interview Imani. This is the biggest case of my career because of how hard it was to not hit double jeopardy. The courts cannot charge her for the exact some charges, so I had to convince the DA there was more to the story. I had a feeling since she is a drug lord in her 20s. Rising to the top is not easy unless you're Imani Johnson.

I went through all the necessary security to get into the jail. My heels echoed throughout the hallway as I walked with the CO to the room where Imani was waiting for me.

I entered the room as the CO held the door open. Imani sat there and when she looked up and saw me a smirk appeared on her face. The door closed loudly behind me and now it was just me and Imani.

I walk over to the table and out my briefcase down as I took a seat across from Imani.

"Ms. Johnson, as your lawyer should've told you, we brought you because we have reason to believe you were the one who order the shooting that occurred at your club. You were released in a previous case regarding drug trafficking, but we also believe that you are back involved in drug trafficking. But you're not the one calling the shots, are you?" I said as she looked very uninterested in what I was saying.

I pull out her case file and show her the pictures of her leaving an underground club that is owned by none other than Bobby Taylor.

"You attend this club at least once a week at the exact same time. You walk in with a bag and leave empty handed, so my question to you is what are you dropping off to what I assume is a competitor club?"

"You really have a whole script planned out. Let's just get to the point." She said.

I raised an eyebrow at what she said.

I slide over the picture of her father.

"Bobby Taylor, he's your connect and your father."

"Tell me something I don't know." She said not looking at me, but she didn't realize what she just said. I get she was trying to be smart but it wasn't a smart move on her part.

"So you admit he's your connect?

"No, but I do admit he is my father. Bout time other cops found out."

"I'm not a cop."

"Right you're lawyer but that doesn't change what I just said."

I looked at her confused as to what she means by "other cops finding out" that insinuates that a cop already knew but who?

"Other cops what do you mean?"

She let out a small laugh. "You think im going to just tell you. I know you weren't here just to tell me stuff my lawyer already told me so what is the point of this."

I lost my beat. My mind was racing and I couldn't focus on anything but what she just said. I blinked back in reality. "We know Bobby Taylor is the real drug lord and the head of this operation. This case is not just about a shooting. It's a RICO case and the main person we want is Bobby Taylor. You have two choices: go down with him or testify and get full immunity."

She looked taken back as I dropped the bomb that this is a RICO case. I had to keep my composure cause she's playing checkers and I must maintain my game of chess.

I know she is not close to her mom but when I did talk to her mom she made it clear what Imani's weak spot was.

"I say if you want to see your family again, your best bet is to testify." I said as I pulled the picture of her mom and Imani's siblings, and with that I gather my stuff and left the picture for her to see.

Though Imani ran away she still sent money her mom's way to help with her younger siblings.

I left the room. As soon as I left the jail, I called the captain of the police and requested that both detectives meet me at my office. I wanted to call Megan, but I knew she's already under enough stress with her mom. I also knew there is a high possibility if she actually went to work today she would be at my office with Toni so I would just wait.

An hour later.

I just arrived at my office from that long drive from the jail. I really hope Toni and Megan are already in my office because this is a lot of information to just be harboring.

I made my way up to my office and only Toni was waiting for me.

"Where is Megan?" was the first thing that came out my mouth.

"Oh hello to you too."

"Sorry, Hello Toni. How are you?"

Toni and I somewhat started to be able to tolerate each other once she found out Megan was seeing me. She was nice about keeping it on the down low since technically me and Megan aren't supposed to be dating while working on the same case. Toni "accidentally" found out when she invited herself to one of me and Megan's many after work bar adventures. Megan is not good at telling people no.

"Im good. But to answer your question, you know Megan is still out of the office."

"Right. Okay I am just going to get into it. As you know I met with Imani today. Yet she was just as prepared as me. Someone on your team has been helping Imani. Before you say I am reaching, Imani insinuated that a cop already knew her father was Bobby Taylor."

Toni looked shocked but then let out a "you lying" type of laugh. She stopped once she realized how serious I was.

"Oh shit. I don't know anyone on the team that could possibly have that information."

Toni was talking but I wasn't listening. Only Toni and Megan have been working on this case. This was a big case a couple years back, but I don't know who was on the team then. I want to assume Imani was lying but everything she does is calculated. She wouldn't let this type of information out if she didn't want it out.

Something doesn't feel right and I have a feeling I won't like what I find.
