Chapter 8

Victoria's pov

I just got off work and it was so late. I texted Megan to let her know I was on the way. I have been working on this case nonstop for the last few weeks. I knew something about Imani didn't make sense. She is a young drug dealer clearly at the head of the operation. I had to dig in her past to ensure, my gut feeling was right.

I was able to track down her birth mother. Imani had run away as a teen and popped up years later running a club. Her mom wasn't happy, and she never reported her as a run away, but to ensure CPS didn't come knocking at her door when Imani stopped going to school she withdrew her from school and reported her as being homeschooled. Her mom was a nurse at the hospital working 12-hour shifts, no way she was being homeschooled.

I was able to get the full story from her mom after I looked into Imani's pass, and tracked down where she worked. I know I am not supposed to do anything like this but I knew I couldn't rely on the Captain to do this because why didn't they think to do this for the last 3 years.

I was able to get a statement off the record, but once she dropped the bomb that Bobby Taylor was Imani's father, I had to make it official. For me to do that I had to promise her protection, and I got the DA to sign off on a protection order where she remains nameless, and until the trial it will be unknown throughout the department how we figured out who Imani's father was. Only me and the DA know and that is to ensure her safety.

I made it to Megan's place. She lived in a nice size apartment. Unlike me she doesn't have a parking garage, so I had to park on the street and get buzzed in.

I made it up to her place and put my stuff down by her door. She led me to the kitchen where she already had a glass of wine poured for me.

"What's going on?" I asked because I could tell her energy was off ever since she came to my office. As a lawyer, I have mastered the skill of being able to read people and Megan just reads as stressed and overwhelmed.

"Just one of those days." She said shrugging it off.

"Really? Cause I heard you didn't go back to work today." She looked at me confused on how I found that piece of information. "I called your office to check on you, and when you didn't answer I called the Captain."

She rolled her eyes and let out a sigh as a smile formed. "You just got to know everything don't you."

I shrugged with a smile because she knows that is very true. I won't stop till I know every detail.

She pulled me closer to her and turn our bodies as she leaned back on the counter and pulled me into her by my hips.

"You look good today." She said.

Before I knew it we were in her bed and her head was in between my legs.
