I did end up meeting with Megan at the bar. It was nice to have someone to rant to about work. I might have misjudged her. She is a flirt.

We have been meeting for weeks now after work. I have started to get to know her outside of work and I think I am developing feelings. We talk about everything under the sun. She is younger than me by a couple years, but she is wise beyond her years. Our friendship is blossoming.

I was walking to my car after another night of having drinks with Megan when I noticed someone was sitting on the hood of my car. I went to grab the mace in my purse when the person noticed me walking up, and they got up and approached me. It wasn't till they got closer I recognized who it was.

"Ms. Johnson?" I said confused. One why is she on my car and two what does she want.

"So you're the new DA bitch that's keeping my club closed?"

I shifted cause I see this wasn't a friendly visit. "Well there was a shooting."

"Yea that was weeks ago, and I told yo police I ain't have nothing to do with that so what's the hold up."

"This is the second one in less than a year, and just so happened a police officer and me was there so it's a little bit more complicated. But if you want to talk about its best you have your lawyer, contact me and I will gladly explain it to them." I said as I went to walk around her, but she blocked me.

She was about to speak but before she could someone interrupted our interaction.

"Do we have a problem here?" I heard and felt an hand placed on my back. It was Megan.

"Detective." Imani spoke. "No problem. I was just questioning why my club is not back open yet. But I see ya'll are clearly busy fucking each other." She said looking at the way Megan was holding me. "What? Did the shooting make yall fall in love with each?"

"Stop. You need to go." Megan said still holding on to me.

Imani turned to me. "I'll be in touch." She said then winked at me before she walked off. Megan and I watched as she walked away then Megan turned to me.

"Are you okay?"

"How'd she know who I am?" I said recalling what she said about me holding up the investigation.

"You're the lawyer who is trying to prosecute her. I'm sure her lawyer told her."

"Right." I said processing what just happened. "You think she is following me now?"

"Umm" Megan said. I instantly pulled out my phone to call the DA. "Wait before you make any drastic moves. I'll take you home and ensure you're safe. I doubt she is following you because that would make her guilty of everything she is denying."

"You don't have to take me home." I said attempting to walk away and for the second time tonight I was blocked from going to my car.

"Aren't we developing a friendship? Let me be a good friend and take you home." She said. I sighed.

"Come on." I handed her my keys and walked around to the passenger side. When we got in my CarPlay instantly showed her the route to my house. In the weeks, we hung out she has never been to my house. We usually meet at a bar or go out for lunch. She told me she would Uber back to get her car.

The car ride was silent, but I couldn't say the same for my thoughts. This is the biggest case of my career but is it worth getting approached in the streets. My mom was a police officer and died on the job when I was only 3 years old. She took on the hard cases and delt with a lot of dangerous people, and it ultimately cost her life.

As I drove Victoria home, I couldn't help but think about Imani stepping to her. She knows the plan, and her intervening could mess everything up. I started to get close to Victoria to ensure I know exactly what she is planning with Imani because unlike the last lawyer she is pushing hard to get any hard evidence against Imani.

She hasn't had any real success, and the city told her last week that Imani could open her club back up, but she pulled some strings and kept it closed. I may have slipped that information to Imani, but I didn't expect Imani to step to Victoria.

I pulled into the parking garage that was attached to Victoria's building. When I parked, I looked over at Victoria, and she was clearly caught in her thoughts.

I reached over and grabbed her hand. "What are you thinking about?" I asked.

"My mom."

My face softens when she mentions her mom. She told me the story of how she lost her mom. The whole reason she pursued a law degree was because of her mom.

"Trust me Imani won't harm you. I will make sure of that." I spoke honestly because even though I am working for Imani, hurting Victoria would be crossing the line.

Victoria gave me a soft smile before she let go of my hand so she could get out the car.

"You're welcome to come up to wait for your Uber." She said. There it is. The wall she won't let come down. I have made multiple moves on her and she always finds a way to turn it down. I understand boundaries because as she said we are technically coworkers.

I got out of the car to follow her to the elevator. When we made it to her floor and to her condo. She immediately went in and went to her kitchen. I looked around at her condo. It was nicely decorated and very organized.

When I was looking around her living room she appeared. "How far is your Uber?" She said. I looked up from the picture I was admiring. "Oh, I need to order it." I said because I legit forgot.

I noticed she put her hair up into a hair clip, and I was once again captivated by her beauty. I remember the first time I saw her at the bar. If the circumstances were different, I would've made a move on her that night.

I quickly ordered the uber that was only 3 minutes away. "Ordered, only three minutes so I guess I'll go wait downstairs." I said. I could tell she was stuck in her head, so I walked up to her and gave her a hug. She melted in my arm. I usually force a hug because she claims she hates physical touch but this time she let me hug her.

I pulled away but didn't let her go. I searched her eyes and just see hurt. I moved my hand to her cheek. "I promise you I will make sure you are protected, even if it means being your personal bodyguard." I joke and finally got a little smile from her. "There is that beautiful smile."

"Shut up Megan." She said trying to pull away, but I didn't let go. She looked at me and I admired her beauty.

We stared at each other before I decided to make the move. I leaned in and connected our lips. I know I caught her by surprise because she didn't kiss back at first but then she did. I moved my hand to the back of her neck and wrapped my other arm around her waist.

We were caught in the kiss till my phone started to ring. I pulled away to answer. Victoria brought her hand to her lips taking in what just occurred.

"It's the uber." I said and she nodded. "I'll come by tomorrow to check on you, okay."

She still didn't speak but simply nodded. I left out. I didn't plan on kissing her, but I don't regret it either. I just hope she feels the same way.
