Grau raises the welding mask off his face before looking down at his handiwork. Olive looks over his shoulder and lets out an “ooh” of admiration.

“It looks even better than before!” She exclaims, walking to the other side of Grau. Grau rubs his gloved thumb over the welding marks.

“Not yet. I still have to shave it down and repaint it.” He says, walking the naginata to a machine in the back of the shop.

“What’s that?” Olive asks, leaning on the table behind him.

“It’s supposed to do multiple things.” Grau responds.

“But right now I’m making it test the dust compatibility.” Olive tilts her head slightly.

“D-Dust compatibility?” Grau turns to look at Olive, semi-confused.

“Yes… Dus- don’t tell me you don’t know what dust is…” Olive remains silent and looks at the floor as if Grau is going to yell at her. Grau sighs, massaging the bridge of his nose.

“Dust is the lifeblood of our world order. It’s a mineral that comes in multiple different forms, but the only natural dust types are Fire, Water, Earth, and Wind type dust.” Olive looks up at Grau in surprise.

“Wait, mineral? It’s a rock?” Grau nods.

“Yes, and It’s used in hundreds of different ways. Fuel for heating homes, ammunition for self-defense, and much more.” Olive nods, furrowing her brow.

“Wait… you said ‘natural’ dust, is there such a thing as artificial dust?” Grau nods.

“Yes. You can combine fire and water to make steam dust. Water and wind make ice. Water and earth to make mud, and so on.” Olive nods, she takes a step toward the machine, watching it scan the naginata. Grau looks at her, crossing his arms. His eyes trail down to Olive’s tonfa resting on the table.

“Are your weapons dust compatible?” He asks, prompting Olive to cower down.

“N-No…” She mutters. Grau’s eyes narrow slightly at her response.

“Would you like for them to be?” He asks, grabbing one of the tonfas off the table. He examines the weapon before pressing a button on the grip. The shaft extends and the shaft splits apart revealing a stun baton, glowing yellow with electric energy surrounding it.

“Hm…” Grau analyzes it, dragging his eyes across the weapon. Before the machine beeps and returns Scarlett’s naginata. He grabs it from the shelf and reads the report on the screen next to it. It is compatible with all forms of dust. Until the registration is displayed, Grau’s eyes shift in confusion. He reads the entire screen before deleting the record of the naginata being there and rests it on the table.

“What’s wrong?” Olive asks as Grau rests the weapon on a table.

“It isn't registered under Scarlett…” Grau responds. Before attempting to match the shades of blue on the spear. Once he finds the shade he grabs an angle grinder and starts shaving off the extra metal from the welding he did. The entire time he thought to himself.

“Who is Mei..?” He mutters to himself, as he grinds away at the extra metal until it is smooth.

A few hours later, Scarlett opens the door to the dorm and slowly steps toward her desk with her eyes closed. She opens her eyes, expecting to see the broken pieces of her spear lying on the desk, but her brow furrows to find the pieces gone.

“No…” she mutters, resting her hands on the sides of her head. Her breathing slowly picks up and she desperately looks around the room, as if she had accidentally looked at the wrong desk. Dez opens his eyes and sits up, rubbing his eyes, barely noticing Scarlett having a panic attack. He groans and rolls over, closing his eyes, attempting to go back to sleep. Scarlett places her hand over her chest, trying to calm down, before the door opens again, revealing Grau and an exhausted Olive. The latter of whom stumbles toward her bed before landing face first on the sheets, and immediately passing out. Scarlett narrows her eyes on Grau, seeing her naginata in his hand. She grits her teeth and watches as Grau slowly approaches her, before setting it in both hands and holding it for her to take.

“What ar-” Scarlett begins.

“I fixed it. It shouldn’t break the way it did any time soon.” Grau says, before turning around to walk to his desk. Scarlett snarls and aims the spear at Grau’s back.

“Don’t EVER touch my belongings aga-” She’s interrupted by Grau.

You’re welcome.” he responds before he walks back through the door. Scarlett stands in the room baffled. She blinks twice and looks back at the spear. It looked brand new. The blade was freshly sharpened, the paint was exquisite, and- wait… there was a charm missing. Scarlett’s eyes widen, before her face forms a furious scowl.

“That son of a…” she mutters, before she collapses the naginata, rests it on her back, and walks out of the room, clenching her fists with utter fury.
