Zubby was quiet on the drive back to his place. She'd heard the men arguing outside and when she made a move to go check, Ada had told her to let it go. When the man returned, she asked if everything was fine. He'd given her the classic charming smile and said yes, but she'd seen Kachi storm out and he'd taken his woman and left. There was notably tension but she chose to drop it. Now they were back at his place and he was still brooding.

Ijeoma idled just inside the front door, watching him put away his keys and head to the mini bar off the side of the dining area. "I'm calling an Uber or something," she said, finally breaking the awkward silence.

He stared at her blankly before turning to pour his drink. She guessed that was answer enough, and although it annoyed her just a little, she pulled her phone out. It was late already and she could only hope a car would be available. If only the broody man would ask her to stay the night, she'd even carried a few essentials in her bag in case of anything.

"Do you want one?" he asked suddenly, his first word since they left Ada's.

"Want what?" She couldn't help that she sounded off, he was pissing her off as it was.

"A drink. It's whiskey. I can mix it for you."

She waved her phone at him. "I'm calling an Uber."

"Why? You're not staying the night? It's late."

"It's not like you asked me to stay, sir. Besides I said it before and you didn't answer me. You totally ignored me."

"I didn't hear you." He downed his drink in one gulp and poured another. He carried the new drink and the half filled bottle with him and came to stand behind her. "Are you upset?" He rested his head on top of hers.

"I'm not!" she snapped, shifting so his head slipped away. "You didn't tell me we'd spend so much time there."

Zubby dropped the glass and the bottle then came back to her, wrapping his arms around her waist and pulling her closer. "I didn't hear you, honestly. Today was just a lot for me. Right now I want to just decompress. Will you stay the night? If you need me to, I'll go drop you off tomorrow morning. As early as you want." He began placing kisses on her shoulders, down her neck and without meaning to, Ijeoma found herself relaxing, even tilting her head to give him more access.

"Did you have a fight with your friends? I heard loud voices." Her voice was low and breathy, so unlike her. She cleared her throat and straightened her back. This man already knew the buttons to press to make her putty in his hand! She was the one supposed to be pressing those buttons. The earlier she had answers, the earlier she could get away from all of this. Her heart sank a little at that thought, setting off alarms. Why was her heart sinking at the thought of leaving him? It was just day two!

"Yes but it's all good now. Sometimes I tend to speak without much consideration and that can be bad in friendships and for business. Kachi will get over it, but in the meantime I feel shitty." He pulled away, coming to stand in front of her. The man's face looked haggard, like he was plagued by whatever occurred with his friends.

Was a man who felt bad about offending his friend capable of murder? That was something she'd soon figure out.

"So how about that drink?" He picked up the bottle, shaking it slightly.

"Maybe a few sips. I'm not much of a drinker." Zubby grinned at her response, then filled the glass. He drank a bit before holding the glass to her lips. "I've not had whiskey before," she found herself confessing.

"Take a few sips, see how you like it first."

She obliged, taking a sip and swallowing. It was like swallowing fire. She began coughing immediately and his grin widened. He downed the rest of his drink before trapping her lips in a kiss, completely cutting off her oxygen supply. He tasted like the drink but hotter and much more sinful.
