CHAPTER 24: Rivalry

3rd Person POV
Carlisle was at the hospital and suddenly his personal phone rang, the caller id was just numbers so he picked up. "Hello?"

"Uhhh, doctor Carlisle?"

"Speaking." He raised his brows in familiarity. "This is Sam, the alpha of the Quilletes, I was informed that a few of my pack members are at your residence healing, is it possible for me to check on them?"

"Of course, you are welcome to, I'd assume you'd want to come today." Carlisle put his clipboard down. "Yes, I hope you don't mind." 

"I'll inform my wife that you're coming."

"Thank you." And with that, the other side of the phone hung up. Carlisle dialed in his wife's phone number immediately.

As expected, Sam, Reyna and Quil were stuffed in an old truck heading to the Cullen's home. Esme was cooking steak to feed their guests as Rosalie was grumbling again. Carlisle's office was locked from the inside, per Bella's request. 

"Ma, do you have the key to dad's office?" Emmett poked his head to the kitchen which caught the attention of literally everyone in the house. "Odd, Carlisle never locks the door." Alice noted. "Yeah, he usually only locks it when guests he doesn't trust are around." Rosalie added. "It's probably nothing children it may have something to do with Ella and her shifter friends." Esme shrugged it off. Though, still suspicious, the rest continue on with whatever they were doing. 

There was a knock, Emmett was the one who opened the door. "Sam." He smiled lightly, he was familiar with him as far as he knew Sam did too. "Emmett" Sam nodded his head. "May we come in?"

Emmett nodded and stepped aside. "Thank you so much for taking care of my pack members, especially Seth, he's young." Sam sighs, rubbing his neck. "Oh, I'm sure he'll be okay, though for now, we are prohibited to enter his office oddly enough, so as we wait for him would you three be ever so kind to taste test my cooking?" Esme spoke sweetly, now that she mentioned it, the aroma of meat based food filled the noses of th shifters, Sam and Quil both looked at Reyna like lost puppies, with a heavy sigh and weak spot for her husband, Reyna nodded her head.

Bella let out a sigh as she woke worridly looking over Leah and Seth, she felt herself healing quickly, though, she cannot say the same for her friends —well, family at this point.

Though, she perked up upon her ears catching Sam and Reya conversing with Esme, it seemed they came to visit, hold on, wait. 'Guys, don't tell them, I go by Ella here and-'

'Relax Bella, we figured as much, are you 3 okay?' It was Reyna who spoke. 'I am, though the wonder siblings still needs healing to be done.'

After that it was silent, Bella shrugged, she could hear Esme asking a multitude of questions while the rest of the Cullen siblings go about their business in the house. The ones who could tolerate the wolf stench remained in the living room.

Bella sat up and stared at her palms.

She didn't want to hide any longer, but even when she wanted to, she can't bring herself to do it, not yet.

Carlisle finally arrived just as the wolves were done gulping down the buffet she had whipped up for their guest. "Sorry, I had arrived much later than anticipated." Sam and Reyna stood up out of gratitude and respect to the doctor. "It's alright, Doctor, we just wish to check on them." Reyna spoke.

"Follow me then." Carlisle smiled before leading the guest to his office and bringing out the key to unlock it. Reyna and Sam gave him a questioning glance as Quil downright glared at Carlisle in suspicion. "I know." Carlisle sighed before opening the door where Bella was sitting, in her vampire-human form. "Bella." Reyna ran and hugged, making sure she was gentle. "I'm okay, I'm okay.." Bella hugged back tightly. "The shield is up." She added.

"Oh thank heavens." Carlisle took off his doctor's coat and hung it on the cost rack. "How are you feeling Bella?" He approached the side of the bed. "Better, honestly, I'm worried about those two though." Bella turned to look at the Clearwater siblings.

"They are fine, their broken bones and blood that was lost is coming back and repairing itself, albeit slowly. I was able to remove the venom in their system, admittedly it wasn't the best procedure but I was able to prevail." As Carlisle spoke Quil's eyes widened. "What did you do?" Despite Quil getting visibly agitated, Carlisle replied calmly. "The only way to get the venoms out of their systems is for me to directly bite into the wound and suck it up myself."

Reyna, Sam, and Quil growled at this as Bella frowned, knowing how painful it was to get venom sucked out. Carlisle held his hand up. "It was what had to be done, if the venom had gotten into their system, who knows what could happen to them?" He reasoned. Reyna sighed and nodded her head. "I.. understand, thank Doctor Carlisle, we appreciate you helping us, despite our ermm.. past. How are they? Are they truly alright?" Reyna rubbed the side of her neck as she made Quil back off with a raise of her other hand.

"It is alright and my pleasure. And yes, they should be waking up any day now, though I'd like to keep them here an extra day to run some tests to ensure that no venom has affected them physically. Though the young lady had more venom so she might take more time to wake up" Carlisle smiled and just when that was over, Leah had begun to stir around. This caught the attention of everyone. Carlisle sped to her side and checked her pulse and vitals. "Hugh.." Leah let out a sound and then opened her eyes.

"Leah?" Reyna walked over to her side, worried, Leah raised her head to look at Reyna. "Reyna.." She smiled, Reyna smiled back at that. "-why does it smell like rotting dead bodies?"

Bella couldn't hold her laughter as she broke out into a fit of laughter, followed by Quil and a sigh from both Sam and Reyna. "Glad to have you back." Sam let out a low chuckle. "Glad to be be back." Leah winked as Carlisle stood at the side. "You're vitals and heart rate are normal, you may sit up if you wish." Carlisle sped to his table to write something down.

"What'd I miss?" Leah groaned as she did so, her muscles feeling frozen. "Not much, oh right-" Sam looked up at Carlisle. "There was a new born attack." This made Carlisle stop. "Excuse me? What happened?" He turned around, giving Sam his full attention. "We're not sure, but 5..6? I don't know, newborns that ransacked La Push. We were able to fight them, it's just these 3 majorly injured."

"I see, I must contact the volturi immediately." Carlisle attempted to pick up the phone but Bella stopped him. "We already did." Carlisle was once again shocked. "Huh?"

"When we encountered the volturi, one of them gave us a way to contact them for situations like this, there will 2 stationed volturi members here in Forks." Reyna explained and as if on cue, Leah blushed madly, and it did not go unnoticed by Bella. 'Ooooohhhhh Angelica and Leah, sittin in a tree, k-i-s-s-i-n-g!' She spoke in the mental connection and Leah covered herself with the blanket to hide her embarrassment.

"I see, I will tell my family then, the volturi never tells us anything before it's too late." Carlisle muttered, his voice laced with slight annoyance.
