"GROUNDED! HAZEL, I'M SEVENTEEN! HOW can I be grounded?" Mitchell said, pacing around Hazel's room. "I'm almost an adult, I've fought wars, I've fought with the gods! And I'm not allowed to sleep with Percy? Not in like—like it wasn't romantic! We've done it for years! It's a . . . comfort thing."
Hazel watched from her bed as Mitchell paced, trying to stifle her chuckles. "I must say, I was rather shocked. I wasn't surprised though, Percy told Frank and I about you so many times we thought he made you up! He couldn't seem to say one bad thing about you."
Mitchell whirled around and stared at her. "Really? Because I have a few flaws about myself that I can point out right now."
Hazel chuckled and nodded. "Yeah, he made you out to be a god. Honestly, you kind of look like one. A bunch of the Romans kept saying how unfair it was that there was an attractive Greek god."
Mitchell hummed and sat down next to her. Then, he began regaling her with Percy's greatest Nemo moments, when Frank stumbled down the hall and burst into her cabin.
"Where's Leo?" he gasped. "Take off! Take off!"
Both Hazel and Mitchell shot to their feet.
"Where's Percy?" Mitchell demanded. "And the goat?"
Frank grabbed his knees, trying to breathe. His clothes were stiff and damp, like they'd been washed in pure starch. "On deck. They're fine. We're being followed!"
Mitchell pushed past him and took the stairs three at a time, Hazel right behind him and Frank trailing, still gasping for air. Percy and Hedge lay on the deck, looking exhausted.
Hedge was missing his shoes. He grinned at the sky, muttering, "Awesome. Awesome."
Percy was covered with nicks and scratches, like he'd jumped through a window. He didn't say anything, but he grasped Mitchell's hand weakly as if to say, 'Be right with you, as soon as the world stops spinning.'
Leo, Piper, and Jason, who'd been eating in the mess hall, came rushing up the stairs. "What? What?" Leo cried, holding a half-eaten grilled cheese sandwich. "Can't a guy even take a lunch break? What's wrong?"
"Followed!" Frank yelled again.
"Followed by what?" Jason asked.
"I don't know!" Frank panted. "Whales? Sea monsters? Maybe Kate and Porky!"
Mitchell got confused at that. "What the fuck is a Kate and Porky?" He wanted to strangle the guy, but he didn't want to scare Hazel. "That makes absolutely no sense. Leo, you'd better get us out of here."
