Narrator

Hanni was starting to get really concerned about Y/n's odd behavior. Y/n wouldn't cuddle her anymore or cared much about how she was doing throughout the day.

"Are you-"

"I'm busy," Hanni couldn't even get words out to try to check up on Y/n.

Y/n had been super busy encrypting messages for Sakura that they were kind of neglecting Hanni's wellbeing.

"No, you're not!" Hanni suddenly slammed Y/n's laptop shut.

- Y/N POV -

Operation 'Pull Away' was in full effect. Pham Hanni was a puddle full of needs and I wasn't going to give into it.

"Ever since you went into the real world, you've been weird!" Hanni looked really pissed.

It was cute though.

It was cute that Ms. Pham thought I had gone into the 'real' world.

It was amazing how well things had fallen into place for me. After years of working at VRU, I got promoted to VRU Private World Keeper. At the same time, Ms. Pham was getting her reintegration doctor. Which just worked in my favor because that was the initial career I had chosen.

Not too long into managing Ms. Pham's VRU world, I started to realize she had a crush on her doctor.

It was typical for VRU addicts who were assigned a reintegration doctor.

If you think phone addiction was a problem, try getting a VRU addict to get back to reality.

I didn't blame Hanni though. About 98% of the world's population was addicted to VRU. The whole world basically ran on it... but it was more harmful than most people thought...

The lack of sleep, the VRU chemicals, the easy creation of worlds from your delusions.

Who wouldn't love that?

But, of course, it all came at the expense of your health.

"I don't know what you're talking about," I opened my laptop back up.

I was encrypting a video message to send to Sakura. My VRU self needed Sakura to find someone to keep me alive while stuck inside of Ms. Pham's version of VRU.

"Huh?" I sat back on my chair and placed my VRU on autoplay.

Oftentimes, I would place my VRU self into autoplay. I wanted to see what Hanni was thinking about or expecting from me. Usually, it was typical stuff, but lately she had been acting odd herself.

I was deliberately acting cold and distant in VRU. I needed Pham Hanni to know what it was like to see someone you love pull away from you.

Although, she threw me off.

She didn't do what I did when my mother withdrew from me.

Of course, I was much younger and didn't know how to ask my mother why she was acting the way she was...

But I wanted to see what I could've done if I was old enough to have those conversations.

I wanted to see the story play out.

"You've been grumpy, you've been distant, and you haven't been taking care of me lately!" Ms. Pham yelled.

I furrowed my brows as I watched my screen.

"You're right. I'm sorry," My VRU didn't respond how I expected.

I quickly expanded my virtual keyboard and coded my VRU to remain distant and deceptive.  I didn't need my VRU's autoplay to comfort Ms. Pham.
