Chapter 15 ~ The Manuscript

The next morning was the first time no one woke Sakura up. She slept in, showered, and walked herself to the kitchen. The private chefs insisted on making her breakfast, but she politely turned them down and made her some strawberry cereal instead - with oat milk, of course.

She was now fully in charge of her schedule. Her meeting with Obito was scheduled for around noon. Sakura finished her breakfast, and walked to Suigetsu's room. Izuna and Shisui had shown her where to find it the day before. Sakura had about fifteen minutes before she was due at Tobi's.

She knocked once, before opening the door. She expected Sui to be bed bound and whining, but found him fully dressed in his signature Uchiha uniform - an all black suit. He was putting on his shoes when Sakura walked in.

"Ha! I thought I was awake, but seems like I'm daydreaming!"

"Suigetsu! How are you feeling?"

"Girl, don't even get me started. Yesterday was wild! Kabuto dared me to try this new Bloody Mary at the Black Dog - turns out the new recipe includes a bit of fish sauce! I was a puffer fish for the rest of the day. I have deflated by now." He chuckled and scratched his head.

"Well, I brought you some snacks!" Sakura sat next to him on his bed and handed him a pack of Goldfish crackers she grabbed from the kitchen. They both cracked up at the gesture.

"Were you all scared and helpless without your big strong bodyguard?" Suigetsu stood up and fixed his tie.

"Oh yeah, I had to resort to Shisui and Izuna, they showed me around!"

"Cheating on me, I see." Sui pouted, making Sakura throw a pillow at him that he caught just barely.

"Oh, by the way, here's your walkie-talkie. Keep it on you in case you need me. I have to do some weapons inventory today so I can't follow you like a puppy as much as I'd love to, sigh."

"No worries, I'm actually excited to move around the mansion on my own more, speaking of which, I gotta run. I have an appointment with Obito."

She walked all the way to his office alone, surprised by her ability to remember how to get there. She entered Obito's office ready to take on the day when she suddenly halted. Her eyes gravitated to unexpected new additions to his office - there was a framed piece of art on his wall, and a vase with flowers on his desk. The flowers were colorful, and the painting depicted a beautiful view of a mountain. Obito was seated at his desk.

"Oh my gosh! Obito, these are so beautiful!" Sakura smiled wide at him. He gave her a faint smile.

"I love it! Why this particular painting?"

"Rin and I used to hike a lot. That's how we met."

"This is great, adds so much light to this office!" Sakura couldn't contain her excitement.

"Yeah... let's get to work."

They started going through the binders of files on Obito's shelves one by one, scanning documents and digitizing all the data. Sakura focused on formatting all data entries appropriately.

Obito assigned all workers on this floor several binders, so all the extra help sped up the process.

"Sooo, when's the last time you went hiking?" Sakura made conversation while typing.

"Not sure, must have been a decade."

"Well then what do you do nowadays?"

"Work, I guess."

"I know, genius! I meant, do you hang out at all? Maybe with your wonderful angelic cousins?" Sakura rolled her eyes.

"It's complicated with them."
