Chapter 18 ~ Assignment Submitted

Sakura woke up to Orochimaru measuring her temperature and checking her breathing. She felt aggressively dehydrated and disoriented. Orochimaru handed her a glass of water.

"Tell me dear, are you in pain?"

Sakura nodded and touched her torso, right where the bullet had hit.

"It isn't too bad, though..." she mumbled barely audibly.

"You are doing very well. Your lack of a kidney saved your life."

Sakura smiled to herself. Her and Ino had saved each other.

"Is it the prettiest princess I see?" A familiar voice called from across the room.

"Sui!!" Sakura exclaimed and sat up in her bed just to groan in pain.

"Not so fast, my dear. You'll reopen the wound if you're not careful." Orochimaru pushed her back down.

"Sui! Are you okay!" She tried leaning on her shoulders to sit up just enough to see Sui's face.

"Eh, my legs aren't doing so good but my handsome face is intact!"

Her eyes teared up at the sound of his joking voice.

"I'm so happy you're okay..."

"I told you, I won't go out with you!" Sui sat up in his own bed and grinned at Sakura..

"Sui, how long have you been here?"

"Beats me. Time just kinda passes by. I'm pretty sure it's Thursday now."

"Did you see anyone come in here last night?" Sakura had a strange dream that felt suspiciously real.

"Nah, I was fast asleep. Why? Seeing ghosts?"

"Something like that..."

Orochimaru came back with some pills.

"Here, take this. You need to spend the rest of today in bed. Tomorrow you should be able to walk." He then turned to Suigetsu.

"And you, I may need to operate on your spine. They hit you in a critical spot."

Sakura looked at Sui with concern, but he seemed to shrug it off. She admired his lighthearted outlook on life.

Sakura then noticed the flowers on her bedside table. She immediately thought of Obito. It meant a lot to her. She went through several ideas in her head on how to repay him.

The thought of Obito reminded her of her work.

"SHIT! Sui, today is Thursday!"

"Yeah, and?"

"My project with Tobi! It is due tomorrow! Oh no!" Sakura was panicking.

"Hey, chill, no way anyone expects you to work like this..."

Sakura called over Orochimaru and asked him to get Shisui. Within minutes, he reported to her bed.

"Look who's awake! Had to hoard all the attention." He laughed and sat on her bed. It was good to see her alive.

"Shisui..." Sakura took a good look at him. He was shirtless, probably in the middle of some sort of training. His eye was bandaged and had some traces of blood.

"Shisui... your eye..."

"No need for a pity party, officer Haruno. One eye is enough to see you staring at my pecs." He smirked at her. Sakura scrambled to come up with an answer while Shisui walked over to Sui.

"How are you doing?"

"My spine is pretty fucked up, but I'll wait to see how it goes. Life is full of surprises." Sui yawned.
