A nurse opens the door. He smiles while looking confused. "I'm here to see Austin," I said. He nodded slowly and let me in. My love was still splayed across a hospital bed. His skin was no longer the eerie, translucent white it had been before, but his eyes we closed. The heart monitor gave a steady beep in the background as I walked over to him. I heard the nurse leave the room as I sat next to him. "I love you so much babe," I whisper. He doesn't move. He's just asleep. Then the steady beep in the background speeds up. I squeeze his hand. "Austin! Please not again!" I yelled as I searched for a panic button, anything. By the time I located the panic button I could hardly hear the difference between beeps.
