I couldn’t go with him to the hospital because I wasn’t family but a couple of the paramedics were sticking behind. They talked to Austin’s parents but didn’t seem to get anything helpful from them. So they walked over to me. Apparently my shirt was soaked in blood. The youngest of them, maybe he was 25, walked up first. “So can you tell me what happened?” he asked.
“M-m-maybe,” I stutter shakily.
“It’s ok if you don’t want to. It’ll just help us out to know a little more.”
“Okay,” I take a breath in and grab the bed frame to steady myself, “Austin’s always told me everything. I knew he was depressed. I’d always been there to stop him from stunts like this. We’d sit on his bed and he tells how I’m too good for a depressed kid like him. I finally thought he was getting better recently though…” I shook my head, “anyway so tonight Austin’s mom called me over because he had tried to kill himself. They found him and stopped him a little I guess. But he locked himself in him room. I got here and he moaned whenever I tried to talk to him. So I got the key to his room and opened the door. I found him and freaked out. I walked over to him and picked him up. I put him in my lap. I ripped the sheets off his bed and started to apply pressure to his arms. I yelled for someone to call for help but I guess they didn’t hear me so I called. Then his parents finally came in and they freaked out. By then the sheets were soaked with blood.” I motioned toward the bloody sheets over to the side of the bed. “So I got his mom to work a little and she got me some towels and I carefully pulled off the sheets. I saw his arms and they were really puffy and dark red. I put the towels on and continued to apply pressure until you guys got here.” I broke down after that. I walked up to him and cried into him. He hugged me.
“It’s all gonna be ok. You did everything right and everything it as in your power to do.” He said. He pat me on the back. “You were brave.” I pulled away. My blood soaked cloths were drying and crunchy. I took a couple deep breaths.
“I’m gonna be ok” I said slowly. The other guys had left already. “I’m Ally.” I said shakily
“David.” He said. “Do you need a ride home?”
If it had been any other time I would have said no but I don’t know I said yes.
