I walked over next to Austin. I sat down in the old metal chair that reminded me of school. I reached over the rails on the bed and held his hand. It was warm. Even though he was who I was worried about him, he was my rock. “Hey Austin.” I say. He’s unconscious, why am I talking to him? Whatever. “How’s it going? You ok? Last night? That was ridiculous. I love you.” The last words are barely a whisper. I breathe again and his hand twitches. It’s just his fingers moving a little but wow. It was great. “I wrote some more of my book. It‘s about to get good to. Your gonna love it.” I say. Then the door opens.
“Mrs. Core?” a doctor walked in, “Oh! I’m sorry. I’m Doctor Kathrine.” She puts out her hand. I shake it.
“I’m Ally Lovelace. Austin’s girlfriend,” I reply. She looks like she feels awkward.
“So where is Austin’s mother?” she asks.
“Mrs. Core went home. She was tired and needed to see her other kids.” I say.
“Ok. I was just going to ask her about last night,” she says as she turns around.
“Wait!” I say, “I probably could tell you more about what happened last night then Austin’s mom could. He told me everything.” The doctor turned around.
“Would you be ok with sharing some of this with me?” she asked.
“Anything you need. I want to help.” I replied.
