Kristen's POV
As I trudged back to my dorm after a long day, my mind kept replaying the strange phone call from earlier. The voice was unfamiliar, but the threat was clear. Someone knew about that night, the night I thought was buried in the past. I decided to push aside the thought and try to relax after a long day. But apparently someone had other plans for me.
"What do you want?" I sighed at the sight of Lucy waiting by the dorm entrance, clutching something in her hands.
"Kristen, we need to talk." She said, her voice urgent.
I sighed again rubbing my temples hard, not in the mood for another confrontation. "Lucy, now's not a good time."
"This can't wait," she insisted, stepping closer. "It's about you. And it's important."
"I really need to relax Lucy, so please just leave me alone. If you're here for Alex, try looking around the campus grounds for him. I don't know where he is and I'm definitely not in the mood for a chit chat right now."
"Kristen, it's important and I mean it." She turned me around to face her, her expression so stern.
Her serious tone caught me off guard. I nodded reluctantly and she beckoned me to follow her to a quiet spot on campus. She handed me a small, worn notebook. "A woman named Amelia gave this to me. She said you're in danger and that you need to read this." I eyed Lucy and the notebook suspiciously.
I flipped it open and started reading. My heart pounded as I read the contents. Inside were detailed notes about my life, my movements, and that fateful night. There were even entries about the phone call I received. Someone had been watching me, keeping track of everything.
"Who is this Amelia?" I asked, my voice shaky.
"I don't know much," Lucy admitted. "She found me at a party and told me to give this to you. She said to trust no one."
A cold chill ran down my spine. Trust no one. What did that mean? And why give the book to Lucy and not try to find me?
I glanced up at her, seeing the concern in her eyes. For once, she wasn't the annoyingly cheerful girl I knew. She was genuinely worried.
"Kristen, what is all this about? Who's after you?"she asked.
I couldn't tell her anything.
"It's none of your business." My response came out a bit rudely which was totally unintentional. She raised a brow at me and pressed her lips in a thin line.
"I mean, don't you have other things to worry about like student meetings and club agendas?"
"Don't give me that crap Kristen. I deserve to know what's going on and if you're not going to tell me, I'll just report to the school authorities." She turned to leave but I immediately held her back.
"Woah, woah, let's not be hasty here." I sighed.
I couldn't believe I was about to do this.
"You promise not to tell anyone?""I do but if i find out that it's a lie, I won't hesitate to report," she said pouting her lips as her hands crossed over her chest which made her look so cute.
I took a deep breath, debating how much to reveal. "A couple of years ago, something happened. Something I thought I could forget. But now it's come back to haunt me."
Lucy frowned. "What happened?"
I hesitated before answering. "I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I saw something I shouldn't have. And now, someone knows."
