Chapter 11

Kristen's POV

When I got to the park, it was quite empty. Except for a few guys hanging around. I walked in slowly and called Amelia. She told me to keep walking forward and that she was right ahead of me because she could see me. I kept walking slowly as I looked around the park, I just kept feeling bugged about something, like I shouldn't be there.

I saw Amelia walking towards me but then as I moved closer, I started seeing two figures. I thought my eyes were deceiving me because the rain had started drizzling and I wasn't born with night vision. But as soon as she came closer, two strong hands got hold of me and held me down. I struggled to release myself from their grip but all my efforts were futile. Amelia guffawed as she approached me and two guys were standing right next to her while three others stayed at their backs.

" You bitch! I knew you were setting me up again when I get out of here, I won't spare you!", I growled through gritted teeth still struggling to release myself from my captors.
"If only you'll get out of here alive", she said and laughed again. This time, the whole gang laughed along with her and I just glared at them with murderous eyes. My heart kept pounding and my breathing was heavy. I was drenched now as the rain had started pouring heavily. Then suddenly, I heard a familiar voice call my name from their gang.

I scoffed before saying, " I knew you were one of them, I wish Lucy were here to see how much of a good guy you are".
" Don't you dare say her beautiful name!", he yelled and punched me hard in the gut. I groaned in pain and fell back a little but the guys holding me managed to make me stand.
"I just despise you so much Kristen, and do you know why? It's because you stole something very dear to me, you came out of nowhere and completely changed her. She doesn't listen to me anymore, all she does is talk about you over and over. Completely oblivious to those who care for her, I mean you don't even care about her.....you always push her away and yet she still wants to get to know you, she still tries to be your friend."
" I even told her to stay away from you but she still didn't listen to me! And it's all your fault!", he yelled pointing his finger at me. Thunder boomed in the distance.

I chuckled lightly, "So you like her huhn? And you're jealous that she doesn't like you back". He punched me hard in the face and I spat blood out. Man! He really threw a hard punch.
" You don't know that. She does, we've been best friends since childhood and I've loved her ever since. She also loves me just as much and that's why she didn't believe you when you told her I was the one who took the book. Lucy would never believe you over me", he spat at my face.

" That's enough! We didn't come here for your love problems Alex, we came here for another reason entirely", Jake said as he stepped forward and lifted my face to look him in the eye.
"We're here for you Kristen, you've been a real pain in the ass for three long years and it's time to get rid of that pain..... permanently". Lightning flashed and I saw the murderous glare in his eyes as he spoke. I managed to speak up,
" Do you really believe I was there that night because I wanted to sell your dirty secrets to another gang? If I were Jake, you wouldn't be standing here right now because I'd have reported to the police but I didn't. There was someone else who wanted to sell your secrets to another gang and it's none other than the bitch who set me up, Amelia". He seemed confused now.

" That's a lie, you're just trying to save your skin but there's no one and nothing that can save you now", he said.
" Even if you kill me, you'll later find out that what I'm saying is the truth. I know why you were badly hunting me down for that book.....it was definitely not for my information but the codes in it. Yeah, that's right.... I know they're a bunch of bank accounts and their passcodes and I also know that each one of those accounts has the sum of one million dollars", he moved back a bit surprised at how I knew that and he wasn't the only one, the rest of the gang were surprised too.

"And there are a hundred of them in total in that book just waiting for you to cash them all out. I must say with a hundred million bucks, you could do whatever the hell you wanted. But what if I told you that the hundred million you so badly wanted was already in police custody now and that book was practically worthless......Amelia, there's no need to hide the book in your butt anymore just bring it out for everyone to see". I saw the fear in Amelia's eyes, she couldn't believe it. She stammered as she tried to defend herself saying I was lying. Everyone kept looking at her until Jake rough-handled her and brought the book out from her behind.

I smirked as I saw their bewildered expression. Jake turned to me with horror on his face and held my jaw tightly, asking me to tell him how I knew but I didn't budge, I just laughed at them.
" He's lying, try checking if the codes will work for one of the accounts. He's just trying to stall us to see if anyone would come to save him from us", Alex said, collecting the book from Jake.
"And you really think you can trust Amelia now after everything I just revealed?", I asked Jake. He just stared at me with a mix of confusion of anger but also a hint of fear. He moved back and went to Alex to check what he was doing.

When they checked about three codes and saw that what I said was right, Alex became furious and started beating me up badly. The guys couldn't hold me anymore and I slumped to the wet ground, my face bloody, and my body sore. Just as he pulled a gun from Jake's pocket and pointed it at me, I heard Lucy scream his name. He looked up and was shocked to see her running towards me.

She came over to me and helped me sit on the ground, she was crying and kept wincing as I groaned loudly in pain.
" Lucy?! What....what are you doing here? Get away from him!", Alex yelled at her. She ignored him and tried to help me stand up but I was too sore to do so.
" I thought you said she wasn't going to be here", he yelled at Amelia.
" Yeah, he never told me over the phone that she was coming with her", she protested.

" He didn't! I managed to trail him here", she screeched.
"Lucy, come on.... let go of him and let's leave this place together. He doesn't want you Lucy, he doesn't deserve your care. I did all this for you, I ....I needed the money to buy you something special to show you how much you mean to me. I wanted to show you how much I love you Lucy, please just let go of him and let me end him so he can stop getting in the way of our love that was always meant to be", he said.

" If you want to end him....", she stood up in front of me and continued, " you'll have to end me first". I was lost for words. Was she mad? Was she willing to end her life for me? And let these psychopaths cut her life short? I struggled to get up but I managed to. I tried to pull her away but she shrugged me off and stood her ground covering me. Alex laughed loudly and said," You want to end your life for this guy? A guy that doesn't even give a shit about you? Fine then.... I guess you've made your choice on who you really love". As he was about to pull the trigger, policemen barged into the park and surrounded us all in seconds. They ordered Alex to drop his weapon and had us all on our knees.

Everyone was shocked and started panicking but not me. Amelia tried to run away but when she started getting farther away, the police had to shoot her dead. The police rounded them all up and had them in handcuffs. As they took Alex into their van, he glared at us with a murderous look in his eyes. We just stared back at him.

" I'm so sorry for not believing you Kristen, I just couldn't believe that Alex.....", she stopped mid-sentence and broke down in tears.
" Hey, it's okay", I said softly. She looked at me with so much sadness in her eyes and then hugged me tight. She kept crying on my chest and I was so shocked at what just happened. For the first time in so many years, I was receiving a hug. I stayed frozen for a moment, contemplating what to do.

Then finally, I moved my hands slowly and hugged her too, trying to reassure her that everything was okay now. But I still couldn't believe that Lucy was willing to give up her life for me to protect me. I closed my eyes and placed my chin lightly on her head as we held each other under the heavy rain.
