Chapter 9

Alex's POV

I'd finally managed to sneak the book out of Kristen's bag , I didn't like the fact that I was lying to both he and Lucy but I really needed the money being offered for it. I didn't really get why they needed it so badly ,all I could see was information about Kristen's movement,his family and some silly codes I couldn't understand. Either way ,I didn't really care I just wanted the money .

I decided to ring Amelia up to tell her that I was headed to the old house with the book.
" You'd better be calling me to tell me you've got the book . Jake is getting furious each passing day he doesn't have that book",she spat out over the phone . She always was a feisty one.
" Yeah ,I got em . Can't believe you managed to fool Kristen into letting me off after I took the book. Not that he'd trust me anymore but why does it matter?"

" Whatever,just head over to the old house now . I'll call everyone together",she said and hung up. I put my phone in my pocket and started for the main road . But then I changed my mind and headed back to college, Kristen must be trailing me now so I decided to go to Lucy's place to shake him off me for a while .

When I got to Lucy's place I was relieved that I saw her . I began to think for a second there that she actually didn't trust me anymore and believed Kristen over me . I've known Lucy all my life and all I ever wanted to do was make her happy. I planned on asking her to be my girlfriend with something so special but I didn't have enough money for it . And my parents weren't going to give me more allowance money until next month which I couldn't wait until then.

She was just the best ,the sweetest,the nicest,the prettiest,the cutest,the smartest. She was just so perfect.
"Alex,what are you doing here?",she seemed surprised like it wasn't normal for me to visit her anymore. She got up and hesitated before hugging me. She seemed off today ,like she was scared of me . Kristen had told her something.

" What? Like it isn't normal for me to visit you anymore?",
" No,no you don't understand. I uh I meant I wasn't expecting you",she sounded nervous. I narrowed my eyes at her and looked at her suspiciously.
" Lucy ? What's wrong? Did Kristen do something to you again?",she shook her head .
" He didn't do anything,you just took me by surprise that's all." She gave me that wonderful smile of hers that completely made me melt . I just nodded and followed her to sit on the bed . I just couldn't stop staring at her ,gosh I wanted to kiss her beautiful lips so badly right now but I resisted . I had to wait for the right moment.

" So uh Alex ,I wanted to ask you something"
" Mmmmmmm,ask away",I said while mindlessly staring at her.
" Well ,I wanted to ask where were you two nights ago?",I moved back up a bit at the question. That night I was trailing Kristen to a club but I couldn't tell her that .
" Where's this question coming from?",
" I just.... Kristen told me something disturbing and well I just .....",
" I thought I told you to stay away from him Lucy ,why don't you ever listen?", I was getting mad now . Why does she always have to ruin our moments together by mentioning Kristen? Ever since she saw him it's always been Kristen this, Kristen that and I'm so sick and tired of it.

" No ,you don't understand. He told me he saw you at a club we went to and then he said you told him you were at my place but I wasn't home that night ." My eyes widened as I heard what she said. She followed Kristen to the club?!
" So you've started attending clubs now huhn? He's such a bad influence and yeah I lied ,I was at the club but I went there to meet someone. Can't I go wherever I want anymore?",

" It's just that......never mind",she sighed and looked away. I turned her to face me and cupped her face .
" Lucy , whatever's going on between you two needs to stop . I don't want you near him again okay?",her expression was laced with skepticism.

" What's your deal with me staying away from him? Why are you always insisting that I leave him be?",she stood up in anger . Kristen was getting into my baby's head and I couldn't let that happen.
" It's just ,you saw what happened the last time you tried to get to close to him and I don't want anything like that or more than that to happen again".

" But Kristen's just misunder....",I couldn't take it anymore. I was so furious,I didn't know when I got so mad and started yelling.
" Why must you always bring Kristen up whenever we're having a discussion. Ever since you met him you've changed . You're always talking about him even though he's always pushing you away . Don't you get it?! He doesn't want you around! Can't you see the real people who want you to be around them , people like me?! I've known you since when we were kids Lucy and I'd never push you away , I'd never yell at you like he does , I .......",I stopped when I realized what I was doing. Lucy looked so terrified of me ,it was like she was staring at monster.

" No,no ,no Lucy ....I .... I'm sorry. I didn't mean to",I said softly as I cupped her face trying to apologize but she just removed my hand and stepped back.
" I'm sorry", I whispered before I left the room.

I couldn't believe I'd been yelling at Lucy and it was all Kristen's fault. My phone buzzed ,no doubt it was Amelia . I didn't pick up the phone,I just hailed down a taxi quickly and directed it to the old house where I was supposed to deliver the book. When I got there , everyone was already waiting for me.

Amelia ran up to me and asked if I had the book with me.
" Yeah ,take it",I shoved it in her hand .
" What's up with you?",she asked giving me a sick look.
" Nothing,you got your book now where's my pay?",she studied my expression for a while before replying.
" Come on , Jake will give it to you",i followed her to where the rest of the gang stood and stayed beside her .

She handed over the book to Jake and he gave her some money which she handed over to me.
" You know you've done me a really huge favor Alex ,and that money is just an appreciation token . The codes in this book are account numbers and their passcodes which will fetch us a whole lot of money. Why don't you stick around with us? That money you got is just a tiny tip of the iceberg",Jake said .
" Sorry ,I don't really need your money. My parents are rich and they make me comfortable ,I only needed the money for something urgent ",I replied turning to go.

" Yeah ,your monthly allowance and all that . Such a shame , y'know if you were part of my small family over here you wouldn't be worrying about how to manage your monthly allowances . Trust me Alex , it'll do you more good than you can imagine." I contemplated on it for a while ,what he was saying was right. If I was part of his gang a long time ago,I wouldn't be bothered about managing the puny amount my parents gave me. They always insisted it was for my good ,so I'd learn how to use money wisely . Well thanks to them ,I was losing the love of my life . I finally decided.

" So ,when do you plan on cashing them all out ?",I turned around and made my way back to the gang . Amelia smirked as I stood beside her .
" Soon Alex but first we need to take care of our little problem. Your guy Kristen might start talking to the police any moment and we can't have that . We need to silence him permanently."
My eyes widened in shock,they wanted to kill Kristen?! I wanted to stay out of it but then a little voice reminded me that that was the only way to bring Lucy back to me.

" So you want to get rid of him huhn......I can help with that",I said . I'd do anything to make Lucy forget about him and come back to her senses . They all smirked at me as I told them how we could do it.
