Lucy's POV

"You ever wondered why he's named Kristen?" Mr Silva asked me as the conversation moved in another direction. He'd beckoned to me to stay a while because he'd loved to get to know me, apparently I was the first person he'd seen in his house that came to visit Kristen. Kristen had been silent ever since his father came back with some shocking announcement, he just stood at the corner staring at his feet.

"Yes sir, it's quite strange for a guy to bear such a name", I responded. My mouth was dry and I kept fidgeting with my hands all through the conversation which was pretty awkward, considering the fact that I was talking to a drunk man who kept smooching a lady far too young for him every ten minutes.
"Well you see, his late mother and I we....we wanted to have a baby girl and we'd uhm.... we'd planned to name our first girl child Kristen....and then whoops..haha..our first disappoinment... but I didn't care so I made us stick to the name because I really liked it", I scoffed inwardly. Wow, he thought Kristen was a disappointment? What a useless excuse of a father, I thought.

I turned to look at Kristen who remained still in his position, staring down at his feet. He was probably feeling hurt, I just sat there wondering what was reeling through his mind. I turned back towards his father and glared at him.

The lady he'd brought home appeared to be uncomfortable, she'd started grumbling in his ear and whispering to him. From the ugly smirk that was plastered on his face, I knew what she was whispering about. Disgusting.

He cleared his throat and they both stood up.
"Yeah uhm, if you'd excuse us..... we'd like to go have a little private time. I'll leave you guys to chat more", he staggered back and forth from the couch and made his way to the stairs. His hands were placed on the lady's sides and she held onto it as she swayed her hips in a seductive manner. As Mr Silva approached the first step, Kristen blocked his way. The lady looked back at Mr Silva and he signalled her to step back.

Kristen's face was stern and cold, his jaw tightened and locked in. The room was chilly yet I could feel the heat of the glares both of them shot at each other. They stood there quiet for a while until Mr Silva spoke up.

"Get outta my way Kristen, we don't want anything ruining this fine day especially not in front of your lady friend", his voice sounded guttural through gritted teeth. Kristen's breathing became heavy, like he was about to blow a fuse. I got up slowly and kept my eyes fixed on Kristen, whatever he was about to do I didn't like it and I wanted him to know.

"I said..get-out-of-my-way". Kristen remained his ground, he didn't budge. The lady his father had brought home also started to feel very uncomfortable, she looked scared.
"Honey, let's just leave. Let's not ruin our mood, we can go somewhere else...my place even", she touched his arm as she tried to calm him down but he shrugged her off.

"No honey, this is my house! And I will do whatever the fuck I want because this is my house! And no one....no one's gonna disobey my order!". I shook as he yelled at Kristen, my chest squeezing in. The one thing I hated was conflict and the air was filled with tension. My head spunned a little and my chest felt tighter. It suddenly felt like the room was closing in, leaving me with two males who were giving off a lot of anger. I didn't know what to say, I just stood there quietly waiting, watching, wondering what would happen next.

I wanted Kristen to look at me so I could please with him to just stop whatever was going on but it seemed like he knew that that was what I wanted so he just kept staring at his father. I started to move slowly towards where they stood and the next thing I heard was an ear ringing slap.

I froze on the spot, eyes wide open as Kristen's face was hung low. His father had just slapped him and he wasn't about to stop there. His father grabbed his hoodie by the collar and pushed him against the wall. I'd expected Kristen to retaliate but he just stood there glaring at his father.

Mr Silva kept landing blows on him like he was some punching bag. I screamed and rushed over to where they were, trying to get Mr Silva off Kristen but he didn't budge. He pushed me away several times and kept punching Kristen, blood was all over his hands and face. The lady he'd brought had already left. Kristen still didn't retaliate back, he just sat on the floor as his father kept beating him up. I scratched and screamed at his father trying to get him off him but he didn't budge.

I searched the room for something solid and strong enough to knock him out. My eyes caught a small brass vase just beside the small wooden stand the television was mounted on. My legs moved swiftly to where it was and my hands followed. As I raised my hand to hit his head with it, he stopped and moved back a bit from the body he'd just messed up. I gasped and threw down the vase as I rushed to Kristen's side.

My eyes were filled with tears and I kept sniffling. He looked so terrible.
"Not again", I whispered into his hair.
"You monster! What kind of a father are you?! You sick piece of shit! You don't fucking deserve to live!!", I screamed at the top of my voice to the man who breathed heavily in front of me.

"The next time you try to act tough around me.... I'll make sure it'll be your last", he spat out and walked up the stairs.

"Kristen...Kristen....oh my God, Jesus Christ. I'm gonna...I'm gonna call the cops", I wanted to quickly grab my phone when he grabbed me back.

"You....you can't...please don't.... don't.... don't call the police", he spluttered blood. He was in so much pains, my heart ached as I saw him in this condition again.

"Kristen no..I-I have to call the police. He's a monster, just look at what he did to you",I croaked out. He shook his head and looked at me pleadingly.

"Please, do this for me. Don't.... don't call the police on him. I beg you". His tears melted my heart and I conceded. We sat there crying in each other's arms for a long time before I finally called the ambulance to come pick us up. Right there and then, I felt nothing more than empathy and pain for Kristen. He was going through a lot and I was pretty sure I'd just seen a little of his world. The very thought of how the rest of his painful and cruel world was, made my heart ache.
