Neil and I walk back into the resort, wrapped in our towels laughing together.
"I hated those corny ass jokes you would tell about me. They were so unfunny I wanted to smack you." I laugh.
He laughs too, "I was running out of ideas! Thinking about my actions towards you is embarrassing, please stop." he palms himself.
"Can I ask you something?"
"Hm?"
"What made you apologize and confess to me now?"
"Finding out you and Kiyan are talking. And getting my ass beat kind of helped to knock some sense into me. Mr. Simmons sat me down and talked to me and helped me realize why I am the way I am. He says I need to leave my father and do what's best for me, but I can't." Neil shrugs.
"Why not?"
"I don't have anywhere to go. My mom left when I was two and my girlfriend... I don't even like her for real. She doesn't like me either. But we were most popular so we both just decided to date and become the infamous high school couple or whatever. She's bitchy though and complains a lot."
"I could talk to my dad about you coming to stay with us. And you could work under him after high school to start regulating income and move out when you're ready." I offer. "We have two extra rooms."
"A-actually?" he says in shock.
"Mhm. I'll call before I get in the shower."
He stops walking and covers his eyes, "damn, Vinnie. You're a fucking angel." he whispers the last part.
"I'm no angel. I'm just a girl who doesn't like to see people struggle no matter what. You're still a kid, Neil. You deserve to be able to change. We all deserve second chances." I touch his arm.
"What the fuck?" I hear. It's Cat and Zain.
"Hey, guys." Neil says awkwardly.
Cat "squares up" and says, "what? You still messing with Spot? I may only be five foot one but I'll tear your ass-"
"Cat. Stop. We made up, it's fine." I laugh.
"Oh. Okay. Welcome to the friend group then." she smiles.
Zain and Neil hold eye contact with each other. I almost forgot about their past.
"Cat, come sit in the room with me while I shower and stuff." I grab her arm.
"Huh? Oh, okay. See you guys!" she waves.
We get into my room and Kiyan is actually sitting in the chairs near the fireplace with Rain.
"Oh. Hey, guys." I say.
"Suki... what did Neil want? How did things go? Did he touch or hurt you?" Kiyan asks.
"He touched me but he didn't hurt me." I start.
"What?!" all three of them shout in unison.
"We just hugged, that's all. We made amends." I drop my towel and put it in the corner chair with the rest of my dirty clothes.
"I'm about to shower. When I'm done, we can all go to that large room and watch a movie. I reserved it earlier." I tell them.
"O-okay." Kiyan nods.
"Gyat!" Cat shouts at me.
I shout back, "die!"
When I get into the bathroom, I run the shower water but I also call my father like I said I would.
"Hello?" he answers.
"Hi, Dad. Can I ask a favor?"
"What's up, Nilla?" he asks.
