—— We're back in Vinnie's POV——

Yesterday Kiyan dropped me off at Zain's house. He said his dad and brother were on the way back with his grandparents and that he had to figure somethings out. Then when I woke up, I got a text that said I needed to be ready to go out to dinner by six thirty. And then he showed up with clothes and a pair of heels for me to wear. They're really fancy and definitely not my style, but he said to just stick it out.

I straightened my hair because I have no other hair supplies here at Zain's. His sister had a straightener though and I needed to be presentable.

Right as I finish putting on my lipgloss, Zain's door rings.

"I'm about to leave, Zain." I tell him.

He walks over and gives me a hug, "bye, Spot. I love you, call me later."

"I love you too and I will."

I head downstairs and when I open the door, Kiyan is standing in front of me in an all black suit. His hair is slicked back and he's wearing a Rolex on his right wrist. He looks so beautiful.

"Oh... wow. You look a lot better in this outfit than I imagined." he smiled.

I blush, "you look good too."

"Oh, do I? How good?" he teases.

"Really good. You look like one of those romance book CEOs." I laugh.

"I will be soon." I think I hear.

"Huh?"

"Nothing. You ready, my love?" he extends an arm.

"Mhm." I wrap mine around his.

He opens my car door for me then waits for me to sit down. He buckles my seatbelt for me then closes the door to get in himself. As soon as we pull off, I ask him,

"So, when are you gonna tell me what's going on?"

He sighs then grabs my hand and intertwines our fingers, "you're going to meet my grandparents."

"Oh, really? Why am I so dressed up then? And why were the tags on both pieces of clothes over six hundred dollars a piece? And these heels... they're the Louis Vuitton Opyums. They cost over a thousand dollars. Tell me everything please." I say.

I bet he's from a well-off family and he's the heir to some globally known company and his grandparents don't want him with me because I seem like an average Black girl with nothing going on for her. I could tell by the way him and his entire family carried themselves.

"Well, I'm actually from a well-off family."

Knew it.

"And I'm supposed to be running my family business in a few months when they open up a few new places around the United States and Asia."

Mhm.

"My grandparents also want me to leave you because you're Black and your family name isn't one they know."

I may be a genius.

"So what? You want me to go in here and act as if I'm some-"

"No. No, not at all. I don't want you to act anything. I just needed you to look the part because the restaurant we're going to doesn't allow casual clothes. You're free to be one-hundred percent yourself. In fact, that's exactly what I want you to do. Be honest and show them the reasons why I chose you."

"How can I when even I don't know the reasons?" I joke.

"Don't be dumb, yes you do. I tell you all the time."
