"Well... do I go back to Zain's house?" I ask while Kiyan buckles my seatbelt.
He shakes his head, "I'm gonna go to my house and grab a few things. I'll get us a hotel room for a week and if my grandparents don't change their minds or leave, I'll rent out an apartment close to school."
He lifts up then closes the door and goes to his side. When he opens the door I say, "that's too much. Maybe I should just go back home. I'll change the sheets and just-"
"No. You're not ready for that yet."
"I'll never be ready if I don't go back."
"I don't care. It's too soon."
"I think I'll be okay, Kiyan. Maybe Cat or Zain could stay with me too." I say.
"If they can, why can't I? I'll grab clothes and stay with you." he nods.
"Kiyan... what if your grandmother never accepts me? Then what? Maybe we should just call this off until-"
"What? No. Why would we do that?"
"If you would let me finish speaking..." I grit. "Let's call this off until you inherit whatever business it is you've been working for. Once it's yours, then you can do whatever you want, right?"
"Yeah, but that'll take two more months. Maybe three if the paperwork goes through slow. I can't deal with not being able to see you for that long, Suki. And then New Years is next week."
"We can still call. And we'll see each other in school too." I shrug.
He slowly pulls over on the side of the road, "do you not like me? I know I've been pestering you since I've met you, but if you genuinely don't want anything-"
"What? Of course I actually like you, you idiot!" I smack his arm. How dare he doubt me??
"So why are you trying so hard to leave me?" he asks with sad and watering eyes.
"Because it's obvious you've been working for this for so long. Don't give it up just for a girl. Go after your dreams first, then come for me. I'll wait for you." I smile.
"But... I don't wanna." he grabs my hand.
"We'll see each other in school. And we can FaceTime every day, I told you this."
He sighs heavily, "I seriously don't want to. What if you need me to help with your nightmares again? Then what?"
"I'll just have to suck it up and deal with it then. I can-"
"Vinnie. No. I'm not doing that. I'm probably the only one who can keep your nightmares away."
I sigh, "Kiyan, please. I'll never forgive myself if you lose this opportunity just because of me. I told you I'd wait. I put that on my life." I stress to him.
"Fine. You better call me every night and morning, I'm not kidding, Vinnie. Or I'll say 'fuck everything' and come to you personally."
I nod, "okay."

Kiyan pulls up to our houses and I immediately unbuckle my seatbelt. As I go to open my door, he grabs my arm, "wait."
"Hm?"
"Can we sit here for a minute? Just one minute."
I sink back into my seat, "just one."
He sighs deeply, "can we sleep on the phone?"
"Every night." I nod.
"I can't take you to school anymore though."
