TW : mention of self-harming and death in this chapter.
We were now at the beginning of Lewis' summer break. She couldn't sleep due to how excited she was to get to know Sam, she really liked meeting new people but she never really had a best friend or a really close friend.
What about her friends from her old childhood town ? Well, Lewis loved them but she couldn't really hang out with them without feeling left out or feeling like she couldn't be herself.
It was a very strange feeling, being left out in a group in which the girls were supposed to be her only and best friends.Lewis finally got the sleep she needed. It was 9:15 am when she woke up, from her mom breaking a beer bottle on the living room wall and shouting words nobody would've liked to hear in the morning, or whenever during the day.
Lewis was tired of her parents arguing all the time. But usually, it was for small things like 'you didn't clean the kitchen', 'I'm always doing everything'. This time, they were way louder. The teenage girl went downstairs just to see her mom, crying and telling her husband to 'stop being selfish'.
She couldn't understand what was happening without asking her parents, but asking them was a terrible idea right in that moment.Lewis' dad was shocked and didn't know what to say, he was angry and disappointed about himself.
His wife didn't want to tell her daughter what was happening yet. Guess she was going to find out later...Her appetite was gone and she wasn't thinking about doing anything but cry in her room, waiting for an opportunity to leave this house. An opportunity like hanging out with her new friend. She was dying of impatience, which was mutual. Sam felt the same.
Sam didn't have that many friends either, he was the guy everyone liked for his intelligence but he didn't want people to see him that way, being the 'nerd with good grades'.
Just like Lewis, he would've liked people to see him as the guy with a 'unique personality' and a 'joyful and funny' behavior.
Unfortunately, people like them were ignored by high schoolers. But, Sam had a good friend group compared to Lewis. He had Eden, his best friend since they were little, a girl with straight and long ginger hair, green eyes and freckles, she was very expressive and never hesitated on telling people her opinions on everything, even when nobody asked.
That was a cool trait, because she could always communicate how she felt about a relationship with someone and fix their problems by telling what was wrong without being scared. And, there was Charlie, Eden's boyfriend, he had short, wavy and brown hair, blue eyes and he was as tall as Sam was. He was very introverted, but not shy. He wasn't scared of talking to people, he just didn't like it. But once he was with his best friends, he never stopped talking about his special interests. He was more of an observer than a yapper though.
Regarding Lewis, her friends were kind of mean. Ashley, the one who was supposed to be her very super duper best friend 'forever' was actually the worst out of the 3 friends Lewis had. She was friend with Lewis just to make an old friend of her jealous, and Lewis didn't know that, she thought they were besties.
Then, the 2 others were 2 twin girls, Mia and Emma, that were having hard times making friends because they were used to spending time on their own, between sisters, so they just left out Lewis without realising it. But they were actually also scared of being bullied for spending time with the 'special one'.
In any case, Lewis couldn't really have online friends as a plan B because she hated spending too much time on social media, she felt like it was a waste of time, for her. She wanted to enjoy the little things like painting, playing an instrument, walking outside, ... But doing these things alone was hell for her, it made her feel unloved and unwanted.
