A man and his wife sat in the living room of a house. The man had a certain air of cockiness about him but there was nothing in his eyes but affection. His wife was a tall and mature woman with long silver hair that reached halfway down her back. Her skin was pale but had just enough color so one could tell that she wasn't a vampire. Her eyes had a serpentine look to them. She wore a white night gown while her husband wore the outfit he'd always worn when he worked, a trenchcoat, dark pants, and black boots. He stood over his wife and gazed lovingly at the bundle in her arms. Wrapped in a blanket was their son. He had the same pale skin as his mother but his facial shape was that of his father. The little bit of hair on his head was a shade of black as dark as a moonless night. His eyes shone a brilliant blue as he looked up at his parents. If you were to see them as they were, you would think the trio was nothing more than a simple family, but you'd be wrong, for they were far from normal.

The man was a fallen angel, a former warrior of the heavenly god. His wife was one of the fabled ancient dragons. They had once been enemies, but with the war currently in a fragile stalemate, they were free to live as they pleased. She had since adopted a form similar to that of the humans. As they gradually got to know each other, love began to blossom. They eventually married before giving birth to their son, the child the woman was currently holding in her arms. They knew that they couldn't get too comfortable, however. Despite the war currently in a shaky stalemate, there was one thing the factions agreed on. Their single mutual enemy, the first of the demigods, Messmer the Impaler. He wielded flames that took the form of Lucifer's first deception and burned away all that opposed him. Once a powerful warrior of the Golden Order, he had committed a crime so atrocious, that he was banished to the realm of shadows. This frightened the woman, as she knew it would only be a matter of time before they were discovered. Her son was the one thing that could stand a chance against this tyrant, but she didn't want him to be raised as a weapon, so she and her husband retreated to the human realm where they decided to raise their son as a human. The man could see that something was troubling his wife, so he started by laying a comforting hand on her shoulder before speaking.

Man: What is it?

Woman: It's that dream again. I cant get it out of my mind. Those accursed flames, I see them burning all that we've worked so hard to build. They tear our peaceful life apart and burn it to ashes. I fear our peace has come to an end.

Man: I also share your fears, but we are well hidden here. Since we hide our auras, no one will suspect that we're anything more than what we claim to be.

Woman: I know I shouldn't be this afraid, but I can't help it. What if he discovers us and comes for our son?

Man: That won't happen as long as I'm around to protect you both. I've grown stronger since that day we met all those years ago. My power is nowhere near where it was back then. If the time comes that I must fight for our family, then I will gladly do so. You two are the most important things to me.

Just then, a magic seal appeared next to the man's left ear. He tapped it and listened as the person on the other end spoke. He responded only with short one-word answers before dispelling the circle with a swipe of his hand.

Woman: Who was that?

Man: Barakiel. He says I'm needed at headquarters. I won't be gone long. Are you okay on your own here? I could call someone.

Woman: No, I'll be fine.

Man: Okay. Call me if you need anything. I'll be back soon my love.

The man used his magic to disappear from the room, teleporting to the headquarters of the fallen angel faction. As if sensing his father was gone, the baby began to cry. His mother slowly rocked him back and forth.
