We were up before dawn, our excitement palpable despite the early hour. The sun was just starting to paint the sky with hues of orange and pink as Oscar, Liam, and I arrived at the airport, our bags slung over our shoulders. We had planned this trip for days, a getaway to my hometown by the beach, and now it was finally happening.
"Logan, you sure this place of yours is as cool as you say?" Oscar teased as we checked in our bags.
"Definitely," I replied with a grin. "You guys are going to love it. It's the perfect spot to relax and have some fun."
"Yeah, yeah," Liam chimed in, smirking. "Let's see if it lives up to the hype. And who knows? Maybe we'll meet some interesting people."
We made our way through security and found our gate, the early morning bustle of the airport a backdrop to our excitement. Once we boarded the plane and settled into our seats, Oscar, who was sitting next to me, nudged my arm.
"Hey, speaking of meeting interesting people, you think we'll run into any cool girls there?" he asked, waggling his eyebrows.
I laughed. "Maybe. It's a beach town, so there's bound to be a lot of people around."
"Yeah, and if not, at least we'll have the beach, the bonfires, and the football games," Liam added from across the aisle. "But seriously, Logan, what's the plan for the next few days?"
I leaned back in my seat, thinking about the itinerary I had mentally planned. "Well, once we get there and settle into the house, we can hit the beach first thing. There's a great spot not too far from where we're staying. We can spend the day swimming, playing beach volleyball, and just chilling."
"And maybe we'll find some local spots to check out in the evenings," Oscar said. "Restaurants, bars, maybe even a club or two?"
"Maybe yeah," I agreed. "There's this awesome seafood place I want to take you guys to. Best fish tacos you'll ever have. And there's a cool beach bar where we can hang out, have some drinks, and listen to live music."
Liam nodded, looking satisfied. "Sounds like a solid plan. I can't wait to hit the waves. And who knows? Maybe we'll bump into some girls who can show us around."
"Yeah, right," I said, rolling my eyes but smiling. "Like that's going to happen."
"Hey, you never know," Oscar said, grinning. "It could be fate."
The flight went by quickly as we chatted about our plans and shared stories. Before we knew it, we were descending into my hometown, the beach and ocean sparkling in the morning light.
We grabbed our bags and made our way to my car. As I drove through the familiar streets, pointing out landmarks and favorite spots, Oscar and Liam looked out the windows, taking it all in.
"This place is awesome, Logan," Liam said. "I can see why you love it here."
"Thanks," I replied, smiling. "Wait until you see the beach."
We arrived at the house, a cozy beachside cottage with a porch that overlooked the ocean. We quickly unpacked and changed into our swim trunks, eager to hit the beach.
Standing on the sandy shore, the waves crashing in the background, I felt a sense of homecoming. Oscar and Liam were already running toward the water, whooping and laughing.
"Come on, Logan!" Oscar called out. "Last one in buys dinner!"
Laughing, I sprinted after them, the cool water a refreshing contrast to the warm sand. We spent the morning swimming, body surfing, and lounging in the sun. It was the perfect start to our trip.
