The next day, I couldn't wait any longer. I needed to talk to Colet and clear the air. We met at our usual spot, a cozy corner of the campus where we often hung out. As soon as we sat down, I pulled out my phone and showed her the picture. "Why were you with Chie?" I asked, my voice shaky.
Colet's eyes widened in surprise, then concern. "Maloi, where did you get this picture?"
"It doesn't matter," I snapped, my emotions getting the better of me. "Why were you with her, Colet?"
Colet reached out, but I pulled back, tears welling up in my eyes. "Please, Maloi, let me explain."
"Then explain," I said, my voice breaking.
Colet took a deep breath and sat closer to me. "We were buying a gift for you, Maloi. I asked Chie to help because she knows you well, even though you aren't friends anymore. Chie has a boyfriend now, and there's nothing between us."
I looked at her, searching her eyes for any sign of deceit. "A gift? Why?"
Colet smiled softly, wiping away a tear from my cheek. "Your birthday is tomorrow, remember?"
The realization hit me like a wave, washing away my doubts. I felt a mix of relief and guilt for doubting her. "Oh... I didn't realize."
Colet chuckled, her eyes warm. "I just want the best for you, Maloi."
Feeling a rush of gratitude and affection, I leaned into her embrace. "Thank you, Colet. I'm sorry I doubted you."
We decided to grab a bite to eat at a nearby café. As we finished our meal, Colet offered to drive me home. When we reached my doorstep, she leaned in and planted a soft kiss on my cheek. My heart fluttered, and I smiled at her, feeling the warmth of her affection.
"See you tomorrow," she said, blushing as she escorted me to my door.
Before she could leave, my parents opened the door. "Colet! Why don't you stay for lunch?" they suggested.
Colet hesitated, but then agreed with a smile. "I'd love to."
While my parents prepared lunch, Colet and I went up to my room. I lay down with my head in her lap, scrolling through my phone. The warmth of her presence and the gentle way she played with my hair made me feel safe and loved. I must have dozed off, because the next thing I knew, Colet was gently waking me up. "Lunch is ready, Maloi."
As we sat down to eat, my parents began chatting with Colet. To my surprise, they brought up our relationship. "We heard you're courting Maloi," my mom said with a supportive smile. "We think it's wonderful."
I blushed, but Colet handled it gracefully. "Thank you. Maloi means a lot to me."
After lunch, Colet prepared to leave, but her car wouldn't start. We discovered it was out of gas, and there wasn't a gas station nearby. My parents immediately offered to let her stay the night. "You can stay here, Colet. It's no trouble at all."
Colet smiled gratefully. "Thank you. I really appreciate it."
That evening, we relaxed in my room. Colet sat on the bed while I lay beside her, feeling completely at ease. We talked about everything and nothing, the conversation flowing effortlessly. As the night grew late, we finally drifted off to sleep.
The next morning, I woke up feeling refreshed and happy. Colet was already awake, looking at me with a soft smile. "Good morning, birthday girl," she whispered.
"Good morning," I replied, feeling a warm glow in my chest.
That day was filled with surprises and joy. Colet and I spent the day together, celebrating my birthday in the best way possible. The bond between us had grown even stronger, and I felt more certain than ever that our relationship would withstand any challenge.
As the day ended, I reflected on everything that had happened. The doubts, the confessions, and the moments of pure happiness. Colet had proven her love and loyalty to me, and I knew that with her by my side, we could face anything the future might bring.
