I stood outside the door, and could here a faint whimpering sound. I quietly knocked on the white, wooden door. "Go away!" I heard. Ok, he definitely doesn't want to talk. I creaked open the door slightly, and saw Romeo with his head buried in his pillow.
"Romeo?" I said quietly. It took him a moment to register who it was.
"Oh hey, Jayde," he said, a tinge of annoyance in his voice.
"Oh, I'm so sorry to bother you Romeo, I guess I should better-"
"It's okay, stay," he ordered, taking his head out of his pillow and sitting upright. Romeo's face was tear streaked, his eyes puffy and red. I closed the door behind me. I sat on his bed, on top of his Arsenal bedsheets.
"Romeo, can you tell me what's wrong?" I say quietly, trying to be reassuring. "I'm not as much of a bitch as you may think." He laughed it off, shaking his head.
I got up and handed Romeo a tissue box. It made me sad to see Romeo like this. I put my arm around him as he wiped his face. All the times I called them brats - now, I genuinely felt cruel.
"I don't need a pity party," he replied, his voice tense.
"I'm not here to pity you. Just to get to know you better."
"Well, people at school were posting rude comments about me on Twitter and Facebook. And since I don't have Facebook or Twitter I can't reply or respond."
"How did you find out?"
"My friend Sasha told me. She's one of the only people on my side right now. She's tried emailing Twitter and Facebook to take them down. They haven't replied to her or even considered to replying her at all."
"So the messages are all still out there?"
"Yeah."
I was actually speechless. I'm no good at giving advice, but it shocked me when a world-famous, sought after model would be bullied so harshly. Oh well, I guess there are a lot of people out there who think the Beckhams are brats, but after my past experiences, they're some pretty great people. All I could do was hug him, as he cried silently into my shoulder.
"Dude, Romeo, you've just gotta show them how strong you really are. You'll be okay," I said embracing him tighter. "You're better than they think, Romeo. You're a good person."
"Thankyou," he whispered, his voice hoarse. "You're the best co-star anyone could ask for." I laughed at his comment, thanking him.
"Well, bullying hopefully won't end in such bad consequences, like mine."
"Jayde, you were bullied?"
Oh shoot. Did I really say that out loud?
"Yeah, constantly," I replied, still mentally cursing myself that I said anything.
"Really? Like what?"
I kept silent, and a tear fell from my eye.
"Oh I'm sorry Jayde, I didn't mean to..."
"It's okay. It just brings back so many bad memories."
I don't think I was ready to tell Romeo about Riella. Riella was a bully, a powerful girl she was. Compared to her, I was a loose puppet on uncontrollable strings. She told me I was ugly, fat, friendless and made racist jokes. She called me a fat pig everyday; from year 4, when I actually let it all sink in, I started to eat less and less, even though back then my frame was very skinny. I started to get dizzy and fainted quite a lot. I tried to hide everything from my mum; but it only took a matter of months before she took me to the doctors and found out I was anorexic, anaemic and depressed. Remember that I was 10 years old, and I was already dieting and thinking negative thoughts.
I got up from Romeo's bed and gave him a small smile. I turned my back to him and slowly walked towards his door.
"Jayde?"
I zipped my head around to meet his.
"So friends?" Romeo said, extending his hand.
I extended my hand to his and smiled.
"Friends."
