"You look great, Jayde," Victoria said, watching the stylist braid the sides of my hair.I was wearing an exclusive Yves Saint Laurent 'Mondrian Dress', popularised in the 60s, that involved a lot of colour blocking, and while people would wear 7 inch heels with this dress, I was wearing black Doc Martens. I picked up one of the Vogue magazines on the table. Alice Burdeu sported the cover, and I instantly gasped. I had watched Australia's Next Top Model, not because I liked looking at the way-too-skinny models, but the hissy fits and fights were just really funny to watch. Alice was the third cycle winner, one of my favourites.
"You're all done," the stylist said, turning off the curler. I got out of the leather seat and twirled in front of the full length mirror. I actually looked alright, although maybe a bit overdone with the smokey eye makeup. My mum had returned home a few days before for work issues, so she wasn't able to celebrate Romeo's birthday.
I stepped outside, ready to be blindsighted by the flashing cameras. Although, when I did walk out the door of Patty's Salon, no one was there. A sleek, black limousine sported some length of the carpark. Victoria linked her arm through mine, as Thiago opened the door for me. Victoria went to the front of the limo.
"Nice to see you again, Jayde," Thiago said, smiling.
"It's great to see you too Thiago," I replied, stepping in. Romeo, Cruz and Brooklyn wee already sitting around the corners, in their fresh new suits. Once I entered, Romeo almost choked, and had to get Cruz to pat his back. "What?"
"Oh, um, nothing," Romeo said, staring me up. "I actually thought that you'd come in wearing a floral dress or something, but I guess that's not the case." Was he saying I looked like a freak? Thanks, Romes.
"It means you look pretty," Cruz said, as I took a seat next to him. "What? You really do."
"Edgy, but classy," Brooklyn added.
"Anyways, where are we going?" I asked, trying to change the subject. "The Mockingjay Part 2 Premiere? Never knew you were into The Hunger Games, Romes."
"Well, Jennifer Lawrence is hot," he replied, shrugging his shoulders, a cheeky grin on his face. I started laughing as soon as he said that.
"So you only like the movie because Jennifer Lawrence is in it?"
"Um..."
"Well isn't that great. You like a movie just because you think the main character's hot? That's lame, Romes," Brook said, trying to prove a point.
"It's my birthday, guys! I get to choose what I want," Romeo whined. Typical rich kid. "None of you have even said happy birthday yet."
"Happy birthday, Romeo," Cruz, Brooklyn and I said, rolling our eyes. No need to act like your being worshipped. A crazed Harper suddenly comes running down the length of the limousine, climbing up on the seat to sit next to me.
"Hey, Harps," I say, placing her on my lap. "You want some coke?" She instantly nodded. I placed her onto the side and reached to get a glass to put the ice and coke in. I handed the glass to Harper, placing in a purple straw.
"Thanks, Jayde," she said, cupping the glass.
"Hey Jayde, how about me?" Romeo fake pouted, his arms crossed.
Oh, birthday boy, no need to be a brat.
